Just promoted to the Second Division, Merkaz Shabab Samasta succeeds a second win at home, after they trashed Tahta in the first round, 3-0. Fayoum SC were the big favourites and the way things happened on the pitch, they would have deserved much more from this game. They dominated quite clearly in the first half, attacked continuously, but had only two clear opportunities: a long range shot saved miraculously by Mohamed Randi, Samasta's goalkeeper and their hero, and a shot from inside the area which went wide for very little.
In the second half, the hopes of the home side increased and they started to balance the game and even had a good opportunity to score, but the ball hit the side post. The biggest chance of the game was however missed by Fayoum, which received a penalty for a clear foul inside the area, but Hussein Khaled's execution was weak and Mohamed Randi saved, to the delight of the spectators which surrounded the pitch (73').
As it sometimes happen in football, this was the turning point of the game, as the Samasta team gained even more confidence and eventually scored the only goal by a substitute, Mohamed Abdel Sami, who received a ball on the right side, inside the area, and his powerful shot went in: 1-0 (84').
In the final minutes, Fayoum tried everything, they even had a shot in the side post, but Mohamed Randi ended the match with another clean sheet.
Starting XI:
Samasta: Mohamed Randi - Ahmed Jaber Jarrar, Ahmed Jazra, Ahmed Ramadan, Mahmoud Mohamed Ali, Mahmoud Shaaban Trika, Husam Hassan, Mohamed Jamal Coulibaly, Ayman Saad, Mohamed Samir, Abdullah Messi. Manager: Ali Hassan.
Fayoum: Mustafa Jaber - Ahmed Saad, Jaber Jaber, Ahmed Ali, Ahmed Abdel Hakim, Ahmed Imad, Karim El Shafei, Hussein Khaled, Anas Muhammad Ali, Ahmed Saleh, Ahmed Blidi. Manager: Ahmed Bakri.
Referee: Mohamed Taha Ahmed.
Despite being considered as one of the candidates for relegation, Merkaz Shabab Samasta are now fourth in the classification. In contrast, despite being considered as one of the candidates for promotion, Fayoum SC are already in a relegation position. In the next round, on Tuesday, the 15th of December, Samasta will play away to Media in Cairo, while Fayoum will play at home, actually at Alassiouty Sports Resort, against Shaban Qena, one of the good teams in this group. Another poor result might be fatal for Ahmed Bakri as manager, whose start of the season is way behind the (too) high expectations.
