Fayoum SC are out of the Egypt Cup, losing at penalties to Telephonat Beni Suef

Telephonat Beni Suef - Fayoum SC 0-0 (4-2 at penalties)

Thursday, 25 November 2021, 2 pm local time (12 noon UTC), Alassiouty Sports Resort, Fayoum, Egypt, the 3rd preliminary round of the Egypt Cup.

Fayoum SC won the previous match in the Egypt Cup at penalties, away at Beni Suef, but this time the penalties worked against them. The match was played at Alassiouty Sports Resort, the temporary home ground for both teams, but Telephonat Beni Suef were officially the hosts of this game, so Fayoum may also complain about the fact that all their matches in the Egypt Cup were away (even if in this particular case, there would have been no difference).

The match was highly disputed, but both teams had issues in getting their actions finalized, and the game ended goalless, 0-0.

Penalties were therefore needed to establish the team to advance to the next round of the Egypt Cup (the first round proper). The first two players for each team scored their penalties, so it was 2-2, but the next two Fayoum players missed their penalties, while the two Telephonat players scored, and the penalty shoot-out ended 4-2 for Telephonat Beni Suef, which advanced to the first round proper of the Egypt Cup, where they will most likely face a team from the Egyptian Premier League.

Starting line-ups:

Telephonat: Ahmed Moawad - Islam Mustafa, Ahmed Nasser, Ahmed Al-Zayni, Abdel-Rahman Youssef, Ibrahim Kabil, Hussam Hassan, Hassan Mohamed, Mohamed Osha, Abdullah Ashour, Ayman Nada. Manager: Karam Jaber.

Fayoum: Islam Emad Risha - Islam Lamouna, Hamada Mohamed, Mahmoud Kamal "Schmeichel", Mohamed Adel, Sayed Kanaria, El-Sayed Lotfy, Dibmoua El-Afriky, Ahmed Saleh, Abdel-Moaty Mohamed, Ahmed Mohamed. Manager: Sayed Sobhi.

Referee: Hossam Azab Hajjaj.

This is the first "defeat" for Fayoum SC under the management of Sayed Sobhi (although officially still a draw). On the 4th of December, in the next league round, Fayoum will face El Badari at home, while Telephonat will play away at Dayrout.

Matches in the Slovak Third League - East, postponed for 2022

Due to a new wave of COVID-19 pandemic in Slovakia, several matches have been postponed in the first half of the season in the Slovak Third League - East (3. Liga - Východ). The Eastern Slovakia FA initially announced that these matches would be played in November 2021, while the first two rounds of the second half of the season (rounds 16 and 17), initially scheduled in November, would be postponed for 2022. The idea was to have the first half of the season completed before the end of 2021.

However, the situation got worse in November and all matches had to be postponed once again. The Eastern Slovakia FA rescheduled all these matches (except one) at the end of February and the beginning of March 2022, right before the start of the second half of the season, which is anyway sooner than the usual start in late March. One postponed match, involving FK Pokrok SEZ Krompachy and 1. FK Svidník, was rescheduled in April 2022.

As a consequence, the winter break table is the one established at the end of October 2021.

Shocking defeat for El Minya, the positive run continues for Fayoum SC

El Minya SC - Fayoum SC 0-1 (0-0)

Ahmed Saleh 75'

Saturday, 20 November 2021, 2:30 pm local time (12:30 pm UTC), El Minya University Stadium, El Minya, Egypt, 8th round of the Egyptian Second Division, Group A.

Fayoum SC became a sort of nemesis for El Minya, one of the strongest teams in Group A of the Egyptian Second Division. Just like a year ago, El Minya were defeated 1-0 at home by Fayoum SC, which continue their positive run after the arrival of the new manager, Sayed Sobhi. This was the first defeat for El Minya this season, and one of the few defeats that El Minya conceded at home in the last years. One should remember that El Minya lost only three matches (out of 30) during the previous season (2020-2021), two away and only one at home... at the hands of the same team, Fayoum SC, in the 5th round, on the 22nd of December 2020. The story repeats itself, even with the same score!

The home side started the game in a very powerful manner, creating a lot of pressure on the opposite goal. They even scored (3') but the goal was cancelled for a foul on the goalkeeper. Fayoum goalkeeper, Islam Emad Risha, had to make some crucial interventions in the minutes to come (11' and 13') to keep a clean sheet, but gradually the force of the El Minya attacks diminished, and the visitors were able to balance the game towards the middle of the first half, when the game was played mostly in midfield. Things started to warm up towards the end of the first half, when El Minya claimed a penalty (43'), and Fayoum had their first shot of the game, which went above the crossbar (45').

The second half was very similar to the first, in that the home side pressed more for the opening goal, but created few real chances. A good chance was missed in the 64th minute, when El Minya had several minutes of continuous attack, but to no avail. Fayoum proved more dangerous on the counterattack, as they took benefit from the ever larger spaces left by El Minya defenders. The visitors had a very good opportunity in the 71st minute, which should have been a warning sign for El Minya. The next break led to the only goal of the match: the action was carried on the right side, taking advantage of the space left there by the El Minya defenders, and Ahmed Salah sent the ball from inside the box to the far post: 0-1 (75').

The final minutes were very tense, as the home side tried hard to equalize. Their biggest opportunity came in stoppage time, when Ahmed Turk's header hit the post and the upcoming shot went slightly wide (90'+5').

The match was broadcasted live on Facebook by the official El Minya SC page.

Starting line-ups:

El Minya: Ibrahim Al Jaraihi - Ibrahim Fadel, Barsoum Mahrous, Hisham Shehata, Ayman Nasser, Mustafa Shaaban Al Shaibakshi, Faisal Gharib, Mohamed Abd El Rahim, Ahmed Ashraf, Ahmed Turk, James Teddy. Manager: Shadeed Kenawy.

Fayoum: Islam Emad Risha - Ali Abo Elela, Hamad Hassan, Mahmoud Kamal "Schmeichel", Ali El-Din Sakhr - El Sayed Lotfy, Modibo - Ahmed Saleh, Mahmoud Abd Elsalam "Gresha", Mostafa Sal - Alaa El-Din Metwally. Manager: Sayed Sobhi.

Referee: Ahmed Hamdi.

The next league matches will played two weeks from now, when Fayoum will face El Badari at home, while El Minya will play away at Aluminium. In the meantime there will be another round of the Egypt Cup, in which Fayoum will play away at Telephonat Beni Suef. El Minya SC are already out of the Egypt Cup.
