Fayoum SC took their revenge on Telephonat Beni Suef

Telephonat Beni Suef - Fayoum SC 1-2 (0-1)

Ahmed Wael 50' penalty - Alaa El-Din Metwally 41', Mahmoud Kamal "Schmeichel" 73'.

Saturday, 11 December 2021, 2:30 pm local time (12:30 pm UTC), Alassiouty Sports Resort, Fayoum, Egypt, the 10th round of the Egyptian Second Division.

Just a couple of weeks after they met in the third preliminary round of the Egypt Cup, Telephonat Beni Suef and Fayoum SC faced each other once again, this time in the league. The cup match ended in a 0-0 draw, but Telephonat eventually won at penalties and qualified for the first round proper of the Egypt Cup. Given their situation in the league, one may guess that they would have preferred to win the league game, but Fayoum SC took their revenge for the result in the cup match and buried Telephonat even more in the relegation positions.

Fayoum also had the advantage of playing at home, as much as Telephonat, because both teams use the Alassiouty Sports Resort Stadium for their home matches. Therefore, there were no real "visitors" in this game. However, the referee seemed to know which the hosts were, because he gave quite easily a penalty for Telephonat but refused a much clearer penalty for Fayoum in the second half.

Nevertheless, even against the referees' decisions, Fayoum won in the end, and they did deserve to win taking into account the way the match was played. In the first half, they dominated and controlled most of the game, and had several big chances to take the lead, by means of Alaa El-Din Metwally (15') and Ahmed Mohamed Roni (22'). Eventually, they scored: Mohamad Adel executed a corner from the right, Alaa El-Din Metwally headed the ball into the crossbar, but then the ball came back to him and this time he pushed the ball in: 0-1 (41').

Telephonat Beni Suef started very well the second half, decided to turn the game in their favour. Their pressure bore fruit almost immediately: a cross from the right inside the box, on the opposite side, reached the winger, who tried to control the ball, but was blocked by Ahmed Saleh and the goalkeeper Islam Emad Risha (48'). The referee considered it a foul and awarded a penalty, which was executed by Ahmed Wael: 1-1 (50').

This was the end of Telephonat pressure, because immediately after the equalizer Fayoum took over the control of the game once again. Their attack was strengthened when Abdel Moati Mohamed was sent in, as the secondary forward behind Alaa El-Din Metwally. Fayoum had several attempts at goal, and pushed forward especially on the flanks, where Mostafa Sal and Ahmed Saleh were very active. In one occasion Ahmed Saleh was quite clearly fouled inside the box, but the referee decided that nothing happened (68'). Nevertheless, just a few minutes afterward, Fayoum took the lead once again, after another set piece. Mohamed Adel executed a free kick from midfield, passing to Islam El Sayed Lamouna to the right, who sent the ball into the box, where Abdel Moati Mohamed headed towards Mahmoud Kamal "Schmeichel", all alone at the edge of the 6-yard box, who even had the time to control the ball before shooting right in: 1-2 (73').

This time, Fayoum took all the necessary precautions to preserve their lead until the end, made some defensive changes, and even had more chances to score than their opponents in the remaining minutes.
