1. FK Svidník will play in the 2022-2023 Slovak Third League - East Group to start on 6 August 2022

The Slovak Football Federation carried out a major restructuring of the Slovak Third League, starting from 2022-2023. The changes were announced some time ago and were planned earlier, but the pandemic postponed the issue until 2022. The 2021-2022 season of the Third League was played knowing that only about half of the teams will stay in the next year Third League, because the restructuring supposed the reduction in the number of groups, from 4 (Bratislava, West, Centre and East) to just 2 (West and East). Moreover, the new Third League will be organized by the Slovak Football Federation, and not by the four regional football associations, as before. The four regional football associations will only deal with the four groups of the Fourth League (which will replace the four groups that existed previously at the Third League level), as well as most of the levels lower than the Fourth League.

1. FK Svidník started the 2021-2022 season very badly and were classified last and without a single point at winter break. However, things changed in the second half of the season with the arrival of Vladislav Palša as a manager and a number of experienced players. They succeeded to avoid the last place, which supposed a direct relegation to the Fifth League, and even climbed a few places, with several good results, including a very positive run of four wins in the last four games: 5-1 away at Sobrance-Sobranecko, 7-0 over Krompachy at home, 5-2 over Rudňany at home and 3-1 away at Raslavice. These results, over teams classified in the lower part of the table, allowed 1. FK Svidník in the 11th place in the table (out of 16), with 29 points. However, this was still far from the 10th place, Slovan Giraltovce, with 35 points, not to speak about FK Poprad, in eighth place, with 46 points. The eighth place was important because it was initially thought that only half of the teams will be accepted in the next year Third League.

However, a number of factors contributed to the accession of more teams in the new Third League. A smaller number of teams from Bratislava group were accepted in the Third League compared to the other groups, and some teams from the Centre group were relocated to the West Group instead of the East Group. Rohožnik, relegated from the Second League, did not enroll for the Third League, and accepted relegation to the Fourth League. Three teams from the First League were relegated, one of them in the Second League, and two of them straight into the Third League - West Group (Sered' and Senica), while Slovan Bratislava B were reprieved from relegation, and Spartak Myjava, second in the West Group, were accepted in the Second League. Mladost' Kalša, ninth in the East Group, and Podkonice, eighth in the Centre Group, did not enroll in the Third League, making way for the teams classified below them.

As a result, the following 16 teams have been accepted in the 2022-2023 Third League - East Group:

Partizán Bardejov - relegated from the Second League

MŠK Námestovo - relegated from the Second League

FK Spišská Nová Ves - second in the Third League - East

ŠK Odeva Lipany - third in the Third League - East

MŠK Tesla Stropkov - fourth in the Third League - East

TJ Tatran Oravské Veselé - fourth in the Third League - Centre

Slávia TU Košice - fifth in the Third League - East

MFK Vranov nad Topl'ou - sixth in the Third League - East

MŠK Novohrad Lučenec - sixth in the Third League - Centre

MFK Snina - seventh in the Third League - East

FTC Fil'akovo - seventh in the Third League - Centre

FK Poprad - eighth in the Third League - East

TJ Baník Kalinovo - ninth in the Third League - Centre

MFK Slovan Giraltovce - tenth in the Third League - East

MŠK Rimavská Sobota - tenth in the Third League - Centre

1. FK Svidník - eleventh in the Third League - East

FK Rakytovce (second in the Third League - Centre), Fomat Martin (third in the Third League - Centre) and TJ Jednota Bánová (fifth in the Third League - Centre) were relocated in the Third League - West.

The start of the new Third League is scheduled for Saturday, 6 August 2022. In the first round, 1. FK Svidník will play ayay at ŠK Odeva Lipany.
