The Egyptian Second Division has resumed

The Egyptian Second Division has resumed after a long break, of one month and a half, due to Ramadan and other events. Matches in Group A were played on Thursday, 4 May 2023, with the exception of the match between Fayoum and Aluminium, played on Friday, 5 May 2023. El Gouna won 1-0 the derby over Asyut Petroleum and are tied on top of the group with La Viena, which also won 2-1 away at Naser Mallawi. Asyut Petroleum are now six points away from the leaders and only maintain slim chances for promotion. No less than half of the matches ended up in draws (three of them 0-0), which show the overall balance of the competition. The 0-0 draw between Al Nasr Lel Taa'den and Misr Lel Makkasa left them further away from the top, in fourth and fifth position, respectively. In the battle for the sixth place, KIMA Aswan and Aluminium only got one point away, while El Minya lost 2-0 away at Asyut Cement, which are getting a bit closer to the play-off position. In the relegation area, Al Madina Al Monawara obtained a crucial 3-0 win away at Telephonat Beni Suef, climbing from the bottom spot for the first time since the beginning of the competition, and actually leaving their opponents in the only spot that would lead straight to the Third Division. However, there are only two points between the four teams battling to avoid relegation, Tamya, Al Madina Al Monawara, Naser Mallawi, and Telephonat Beni Suef. Fayoum SC only succeeded a 0-0 draw at home against Aluminium, so they are still only 5 points above relegation.
