Cusco FC again down to ten men, Deportivo Binacional won but are still in relegation area

Deportivo Binacional - Cusco FC 2-0 (1-0)

The match had just started and the teams were still accommodating in the field, when Nelinho Quina accidentally tripped over an opponent's ankle (15'). The referee saw nothing, the TV audience and commentators saw nothing, the play continued normally, but nowadays there is VAR in Peruvian football. And VAR called the referee to review the gesture, and well, in slow motion it really looked like a sadistic entry, and Quina was sent off (17'). Cusco FC had had a promising start, but now they were once again down to ten men, just like in their previous match against FBC Melgar at home (which ended 1-1) and many others in this Clausura tournament. And they had to face a superior team in terms of number of players for more than 70 minutes! And not just any team, but Deportivo Binacional, which were deep in trouble and needed to win to stay out of relegation. Christopher Olivares, who just came back in the field after an injury, had to be soon replaced by Benincasa, as a second centre back.

Of course, with one man up, the hosts took the initiative and were able to break the deadlock right before half time. Edson Aubert took a corner kick from the right and surprisingly passed to Brandon Palacios, unmarked, outside the box, whose shot was deflected by Ayarza and misguided the goalkeeper: 1-0 (41').

In the second half, even in ten men, Cusco FC tried to equalize. However, Binacional had several chances to double their advantage, especially by means of Zeta. The biggest opportunities belonged to the visitors. First, a perfect counterattack launched by Felipe Rodríguez and continued by Jhonny Vidales, ended with a precise pass from Vidales to Rolando Díaz, all alone at the far post, but the striker's shot hit the left arm of the goalkeeper Enríquez (76'). This was in fact the biggest opportunity of the whole match. From the resulting corner, Horacio Benincasa's header hit the post (77').

In stoppage time, Deportivo Binacional eventually succeeded to secure the win, by scoring a second goal. Goalkeeper Enríquez took a free kick from their own half, sending a long ball to the opposite half, Palacios back heel passed to Oncoy, whose cross found Andy Polar unmarked in the centre of box, and his shot was good enough to beat Hermosa: 2-0 (90'+2').

Despite this win, Deportivo Binacional remain in relegation position, but they might be able to get out of there the next round, when they will face Sport Huancayo away, while Unión Comercio will not play. Cusco FC is getting farther and farther from the fourth place, which would allow them to participate in the next year Copa Libertadores, and they need to win at home against ADT Tarma this Saturday to stay as close as possible to the top places of the aggregate table.
