Wael Al Qabbani, former Zamalek player, who won the CAF Champions League and the African Cup Winners' Cup as well as several Egyptian titles with Zamalek as a player, has been appointed as the new head coach of Fayoum SC.

Wael Al Qabbani, 41 years old, is still at the beginning of his coaching career. He was assistant coach and youth coach in Egyptian Premier League clubs such as Shorta and Zamalek but he had the position of head coach only in the lower leagues.
However, the management of the club has full trust that he will be able to lead the team to a successful season, even to the first-ever promotion to the Premier League. The following season, 2018-2019, will be a difficult one for all the teams in the Second Division, because the Football Federation decided to transform the Second Division into a fully professional league, therefore only the first few classified in each of the present three groups will be admitted to the future Second Division, which will comprise only one nation-wide group.
Despite the fact that he found only 12 players at the first meeting with the team, Wael Al Qabbani is quite optimistic about the future and promised to lead the club to the Premier League. However, he added that he would need at least other 17 players to have a competitive squad.

Wael Al Qabbani replaces the former head coach, Sabri El Miniaoui, who stayed less than two months at Fayoum SC, from the beginning of March 2018 until the end of April 2018. In his rather short stay, Sabri El Miniaoui was able to save Fayoum SC from the relegation to the Third Division. At the end of April, he handed over a report to the club management, regarding the main issues he noticed within the team during his stay, and declared that he also submitted a number of requests in case the club would like him to continue as head coach. Apparently, the board of directors did not want Sabri El Miniaoui to continue, despite the rather good performance of the team, and considered Wael Al Qabbani as a better option.
Regardless of the coach, heavy investments would be needed to achieve promotion to the Premier League and even for the maintenance in the Second Division.
