Victor Reyes is the new head coach and Fernando Nogara - the new sporting director of Real Garcilaso

The two-week break in the Clausura tournament of the Peruvian First Division was used by the management of Real Garcilaso to make some radical changes in the technical leadership of the team. First of all, an agreement has been reached with the Uruguayan head coach Tabare Silva and his assistants, who eventually left the club after about six months (since the end of March 2018). During this period, Real Garcilaso succeeded to classify third in the Apertura but they are only in mid-table after 7 rounds of Clausura, at about halfway through the tournament.
However, Real Garcilaso still has theoretical chances to win the Peruvian First Division if they made it to the play-off - either by winning the Clausura (which is rather difficult, with 8 matches to go) or by classifying third in the aggregate table, supposing that Sporting Cristal and Melgar retain their positions as first and second classified and that Melgar would win the Clausura. This way, Real Garcilaso would qualify to the play-offs as the best classified team in the aggregate table that has not won any tournament.
While the results were not particularly bad this year, the club management want more - and the main goal is the title.
For this, a new head coach was looked after. Initial rumours indicated that an agreement has been reached with Julio Cesar Uribe, former manager of the Peru national football team.
However, in the end, it was decided that Peruvian Victor Reyes would be the new coach of Real Garcilaso. The decision is rather surprising, because Victor Reyes has no experience at this level and he was recently involved in coaching only youth teams, last time at Alianza Lima.

Julio Cesar Uribe, as well as others, expressed their concerns related to the strategy of Real Garcilaso management. In fact, the main criticizing point is related to the fact that a new sporting director has been also hired for the first time - the Argentinian Fernando Nogara, who has just left Sport Rosario, where he had the position of head coach. Fernando Nogara cannot be appointed as head coach of Real Garcilaso this year, according to the regulations, because he was already head coach of another team (Sport Rosario) for the Clausura tournament. However, it is believed that he would be indeed the "true" head coach and will take full charges the next year, when he will be allowed officially to become head coach. For the moment, at least officially, Fernando Nogara has the position of sporting director, taking responsibility for the senior, reserve and youth teams as well.

Ariel Paz will continue as goalkeepers' coach, while Jorge Castaneira will be the physical preparation coach. Gustavo Fernandez was newly appointed as technical head of the youth teams of Real Garcilaso.
There are 8 matches that remain to be played in the Clausura and the fans are eager to see a positive impact of these changes in the game and the results of the team.
