Fayoum lost 2-1 to Media in the tenth round of the Egyptian Second Division - Group A

Sunday, the 22nd of December 2019, 14:30 local time (12:30 UTC), Media Stadium, 6th of October City (Cairo Metropolitan Area), Egypt, the 10th round of the Egyptian Second Division, Group A.

Two teams struggling to avoid relegation have met in the Cairo Metropolitan Area, while equal in points and in goal difference, below the relegation line. Last season, Fayoum succeeded to remain in the Second Division by winning at home 2-0 over Media in a decisive match only for the hosts, because Media remained anyway on the third place. This year it is another story, because both teams are now pretty much in the same situation and need the points to get out of the relegation area.

The home side, Media, played better and took the advantage in the first half, by means of Ehab Fouad Al-Masry, who transformed a penalty given for a foul inside the area.

Fayoum started very well the second half, decided to equalize, and the goal came quickly, scored by Ahmed Adel Emad: 1-1 (48'). However, Media tried hard to win this match and eventually succeeded to score the winning goal, by means of Abu Bakr Mohamed: 2-1 (69'). Both teams had plenty of other opportunities, as Fayoum were desperately looking for an equalizer and the home side had much space for the counterattack, but no more goals were scored, and the final result remained 2-1.

With this win, Media went up on the eighth place, just above the relegation line, while Fayoum stay on the tenth place, as before. Next Sunday, in the last round of the first half of the season, Fayoum will play at home against Dayrout, second to last classified. Just like very other game at home, a win is essential to maintain alive the hopes for staying in the category.

The most interesting match of the round was played between the top two teams in the group, and former leaders Beni Suef lost surprisingly 1-0 at home to National Bank, therefore swapping places. National Bank are again leaders and, despite being newly-promoted, they seem to be the main competitor for the first place, leading to the Egyptian Premier League.
