Wrong new beginning: Cusco FC - Binacional 0-2 in the first round of the Peruvian Apertura

Monday, the 3rd of February 2020, 15:00 local time (20:00 UTC), Estadio Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Cusco, Peru, first round of Peruvian First Division - Apertura.
Cusco FC is the new name of Real Garcilaso and started the 2020 season with a difficult home game against Peruvian champions Deportivo Binacional. However, much of the two teams changed during the December-January window transfer, with Cusco FC inheriting only two players in the starting line-up, Ramúa and Carando, from the former Real Garcilaso. The Peruvian champions also changed more than half of the team but unlike the home side, they brought really good players, which was visible in the field.
So, a new beginning for a "new" team, Cusco FC, who failed to provide what the fans have wanted and even worse, they lost miserably despite dominating most of the game. In both halves, the home team started very well, putting a lot of pressure on the visitors, but lacking the goal opportunities. In the first half, goalkeeper Fernandez had to save a long-range shot by Ramúa (14') from a free kick, but nothing else. However, the energy seemed to fade for the Cusco players in the final minutes of the first half, when the visitors had two good chances, by means of Rodriguez (41') with a shot and Bareiro (45'+1') with a header, slightly wide.

In the second half, again, the home side started very well, dominating the field with good possession, but the attack failed to provide even the slightest chance. On the other hand, the defence looked ridiculously weak, as every Binacional counterattack proved dangerous. So, eventually the visitors scored: a simple short pass from Arango reached Aldair Rodriguez, alone in the area, and he sent the ball home: 0-1 (68').
After scoring, the visitors were mainly preoccupied with wasting as much time as possible, and this led to a second yellow card for Arango, who was sent off (82'). Down to ten men, Binacional defended well, and were helped by the heavy rain which hindered the construction of Cusco FC. Not to mention that there was not too much construction, as most of the balls were simply sent in the area, with the hope that in some way someone may score. The tall Binacional defenders solved most of these balls, but in one occasion Carando headed into the net but the goal was cancelled correctly for offside (89').
When nobody expected anything from this game, another simple pass from Romero to Aldair Rodriguez left the Binacional striker alone with Pretel, and he scored easily as the Cusco defenders were way out misjudging an offside position: 0-2 (90'+2').
Cusco: Pretel - Toledo, Paniagua, Delgado, Céspedes - Palacios (Velásquez 72'), Aranda (Boló 63'), Atoche, Ramúa - Posito (Carranza 45'), Carando. Head coach: Javier Arce.
Binacional: R. Fernandez - Ojeda (Pérez 63'), Fajardo, Bareiro, Reyes - Tello, Mesones (Arango 62') - Leudo, Manco (Romero 81'), Polar - Rodriguez. Head coach: César Vigevani.
Referee: Michael Davis Espinoza.
Yellow cards: Céspedes 45'+1', Palacios 66', Atoche 82' - Tello 13', Leudo 66', Arango 69', 82', Fernández 70'.
Red card: Arango 82' (double yellow card).
This the weakest game made by Cusco FC / Real Garcilaso in years. One can see the result of a window between seasons in which all the efforts were focused on changing the name and the image of the club, but  transfers were considered unimportant and the low budget allowed for transfers has now materialized in a poor game. It is not something unexpected that having so many new players, they do not know each other and they need time to accommodate and to learn how to play together. Football is a collective game and Javier Arce needs some time to build up a team, but unfortunately the season has already started and the team looks terrible.
In the next round, Cusco FC will play away at Sporting Cristal, another strong team of the Peruvian league.
