Sayed Sobhi is no longer the manager of Fayoum SC after another home defeat, this time to Telephonat Beni Suef

Fayoum SC - Telephonat Beni Suef 0-1 (0-0)

Hassan Mohamed Hassan 72'.

Thursday, 31 March 2022, 3 pm local time (1 pm UTC), Alassiouty Sport Resort, Fayoum, Egypt, the 25th round of the Egyptian Second League, Group A.

The two teams, Fayoum SC and Telephonat Beni Suef, share the same ground, Alassiouty Sport Resort Stadium, so the usual home advantage for Fayoum SC vanished in this case.

Moreover, the two teams came after contrasting periods. Fayoum SC were unable to win a single match out of the last seven they played, while Telephonat registered an almost continuous winning streak which took them out of the relegation area. The form of the two teams was confirmed: Telephonat recorded yet another win, while Fayoum lost once more.

However, in the field things did not look so different, and the teams shared periods of domination and control of the game, and both had plenty of chances. The match could go either way, but Fayoum are out of luck lately. They lost their previous match at home, 2-1 to El Minya, after a good game in which their opponents were easily awarded two penalties, which they transformed; and they were equalized from another penalty away at El Badari on Sunday, in a match they clearly dominated and could have won clearly, but ended 1-1.

This time, the only goal of the match came after a beautiful shot from just outside the area, by Hassan Mohamed Hassan: 0-1 (72'). All the efforts made by Fayoum players to equalize in the remaining minutes were in vain. This extends the number of consecutive winless matches for Fayoum to eight, five defeats and three draws.

Starting line-ups:

Fayoum: Mohamed Fathi - Ali El-Din Sakhr, Hossam Hassan, El-Saeed Kamal, Mohamed Adel, El Sayed Lotfy, Islam Fathi, Ahmed Mohamed, Mohamed Morsi, Mohamed Tarek, Youssef Mustafa. Manager: Sayed Sobhi.

Telephonat: Mohamed Gamal - Jihad Sayed, Ahmed El-Nahhas, Abdelrahman Youssef, Ahmed Shaaban, Mohamed Ashraf, Hassan Mohamed, Ahmed Hamdi, Fathi Gamal, Haitham Jamil, Ahmed Wael. Manager: Kaboria.

Referee: Mohamed Abdel Alim.

This result had its rather expected consequences. Sayed Sobhi managed Fayoum SC since November 2021, and had excellent results in the first part of the season, as well as in the first two rounds of the second half of the season: 7 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. However, the situation changed dramatically after the winter transfer period, when some of the best players in the squad left. In the last eight rounds, as already stated, Fayoum registered three draws and five defeats. This situation was no longer tolerated by the administration board, and yesterday, the 1st of April, it was announced that Sayed Sobhi is no longer the manager of the team. The decision is quite harsh, taking into account everything that Sayed Sobhi has done for the team. However, as usual, somebody has to pay for the bad results, and most of the times, it is the manager who has to leave. On Monday, the name of the new manager would be announced. The period is adequate, because there is a long break in the league due to the Ramadan. The new manager will have time to adjust to the team, and there are only five rounds remaining of this year Second Division. Fayoum SC are still 7 points clear of the relegation area, and should have no problems in avoiding relegation.
