After many years, there is once again a Fayoum derby in the Second Division, to be played between Fayoum SC and Misr Lel Makkasa, the latter just relegated from the Premier League. Unfortunately, the people of Fayoum did not have the opportunity to see this game in the city stadium, but had to travel to Alassiouty Sport Resort, where Fayoum SC have played their home matches since 2017.
The match was practically decided in the first minute, or 48 seconds, to be more precise. The first attack of the visitors resulted in a cross from the right side, and Youssef Mazhar headed in from the centre of the box, catching the Fayoum goalkeeper on the wrong foot: 0-1 (1').
Fayoum SC struggled much to equalize, and they had almost the entire match at their disposal to do so, but they were unable to break the opposite defence.
This win allows Misr Lel Makkasa to climb into third place and to stay close to the top two teams, which will face each other in the next round, Asyut Petroleum and El Gouna.
Fayoum SC, on the other hand, remain in the lower half of the table and farther from the sixth place, which is probably their realistic goal, as the top five are already miles away.
