The two teams are somewhat surprisingly in opposite positions in the table: Asyut Petroleum on top, while Fayoum are struggling near the bottom. This was the context in which the match began. The hosts, as clear favorites, attacked more and had plenty of opportunities, but missed many of them. Fayoum, on the other side, defended well and tried something on the counterattack. They are in desperate need of points, and their defensive strategy was justified in front of a better team. Fayoum succeeded to maintain the 0-0 draw up to half time.

In the second half, Asyut Petroleum intensified their attacks, and the goal eventually came: a cross into the box was converted by Walid Attia, whose precise shot hit the target, surprising the Fayoum goalkeeper: 1-0 (59').
After the goal, the visitors tried to come back into the game, but were unable to equalize. Even more, Asyut Petroleum had some good opportunities on break. On one occasion, one of Petroleum attackers succeeded to overtake the goalkeeper, but his pass in the centre of the box was not converted by his teammate, in excellent position.
This win allows Asyut Petroleum to maintain their leadership, one point above La Viena, and three points above El Gouna, but this might change at any time. On the other hand, Fayoum SC dropped in 14th place, and only three points away from the bottom, given the shocking win of Al Madina Al Monawara away at Misr Lel Makkasa.

In the next round, Asyut Petroleum will have a difficult task away at Al Nasr Lel Taa'den, while Fayoum will absolutely have to win their home game against Naser Mallawi to keep out of the relegation area.
