Fayoum SC were quite hopeful at the start of the new season, with a new main sponsor, Al Rowad Sports Investment Company, headed by General Major Mohamed Abdel Salam, and Professor Mohammad Majd as the representative of the sponsor company in the management of the football team. Several transfers made by manager Ahmed Abdel Ghany were supposed to improve the level of the team, and the match against newly-promoted Shoban Moslemen Qena was considered a rather easy one.

The game was in fact much more difficult than it first appeared. Fayoum controlled most of the first half, and had a number of promising actions, but very few ended with dangerous shots, and only one shot by Mohamed Morsi put the Shoban Qena goalkeeper to the test.

However, things changed when Fayoum central midfielder Mohamed Morsi was injured, with a shoulder dislocation, and had to be replaced (23'). Gradually, the host team lost control of the midfield, and the visitors became increasingly more offensive. In the last minute of the first half, they even claimed a penalty, but the referee did not award it. However, in the first half stoppage time, a great shot bby Hazem Kamal Taha from the edge of the area went to the upper left corner of Fayoum goal: 0-1 (45'+3'). The stoppage time was given for the water break (necessary due to the heat) and because of Morsi's injury.

Fayoum SC started the second half very determined to equalize as quickly as possible and to turn the game into their favour. They attacked almost continuously, while Shoban Moslemen Qena defended vigorously and the game was mainly disputed in the visitors' half of the field.

The equalizer eventually came, after a cross from the left, as sub Saad Jamal's shot from inside the box went in, right below the crossbar: 1-1 (66').

After the goal, the game became more balanced. The visitors tried to give a reply, but still Fayoum SC pressed harder for the winning goal. The situation changed again when Ahmed Haroun (Shoban Qena) received a second yellow, which meant a red card, and was sent off (73'). Down to ten men, Shoban Qena returned to the defending lines.

Fayoum SC attacked with almost the entire team, but did not find the way to the goal. On the other hand, they were very close to be punished. In the last action of the match, two Shoban Moslemen Qena players escaped on a counterattack against only one Fayoum defender and the goalkeeper. The action was well managed almost until the end, when the final shot was deflected into a corner by the Fayoum defender (90'+3').

Fayoum SC: Amir Nouman - Muhammad Ashraf (Mohamed Tariq 70'), Hamad Hassan, John, Al-Saeed Kamal, Mahmoud Ezzat, Ali El Din Sakhr (Saad Jamal 46'), Mohamed Morsi (Sayed Lotfy 23'), Raymond Gel (Sameh Ateh 81'), Islam El Sayed (Salaf Al-Din Rifaat 70'), Mohammad Jamal. Manager: Ahmed Abdel Ghany.
