Two consecutive 1-1 draws for Fayoum SC

Al Madina Al Monawara - Fayoum 1-1 (1-1)

Ali Baba 8' penalty - Sameh Atef 25'.

Thursday, 24 November 2022, 2:30 pm local time (12:30 pm UTC), Al Madina Al Monawara Stadium, Luxor, Egypt, the 7th round of the Egyptian Second Division, Group A.

After the first win this season, 2-1 away at Asyut Cement, also the first with Khaled Eino as Fayoum manager, the expectations were quite high regarding the next two games, at home against El Minya and away against last classified Al Madina Al Monawara.

Nevertheless, Fayoum SC was unable to win neither of these matches, and they drew 1-1 in both of them, which seems to be their usual result this season: out of 7 matches, they drew 5, and it was 1-1 in four of them, which is more than half of the matches already played. The difference was that in their home game against El Minya, there was 0-0 at half time, and then Fayoum took the lead by a penalty scored by Islam Ramadan (63'), while the visitors equalized 10 minutes later with a header by John Mpachu (73').

It was quite the other way around in Luxor, where the host team, Al Madina Al Monawara, which failed to win a game so far this season and are bottom of the table, took an early lead by Ali Baba, who transformed a penalty (8'). Fayoum equalized soon, by means of Sameh Atef (26') and it seemed that they were able to turn the game into their favour, but the result did not change until the end.

Fayoum are in mid-table, but the first five teams have already distanced from the rest, which means that the fight to be part of the professional Second Division next year may probably focus on the sixth position, which leads to the play-off. Anyway, after a pair of "easy" matches, Fayoum SC will now have to face Misr Lel Makkasa in a long-awaited local derby, on 2 December.
