The winning streak is over: Fayoum lost 1-0 to Beni Suef in the 8th round of the Egyptian Second Division

Saturday, 9 January 2021, 2:30 pm local time (12.30 UTC), Alassiouty Sport Resort, Fayoum, Egypt, the 8th round of the Egyptian Second Division, Group A.
After four consecutive wins, Fayoum lost 1-0 at home against Beni Suef, a game which could have gone either way. The visitors, recovering after a unexpectedly poor start of the season, managed a win with the minimal margin, by means of a late goal, while they had one man up for the last 30 minutes.
In the first half, both teams could have scored. Fayoum strikers missed the target in several good goal opportunities, while Beni Suef players were more precise, but were denied by Fayoum's goalkeeper, Mostafa Jaber "Dida". The biggest chance, however, belonged to the home side, as Anas Shendy's shot from inside the box took a deflection which misguided the goalkeeper, but the ball went wide for very little (42').
In the second half, it became obvious that the first team to score would have a great advantage, as time passed by. One of the key events of the game was the red card showed by the referee Amin Omar to Fayoum centre back Mahmoud Kamal "Schmeichel", who stopped a dangerous Beni Suef counterattack as the last defender, by a foul on Mahmoud Abdel Ati (59').

Beni Suef had the upper hand in the following minutes, and Mahmoud Abdel Ati missed a great chance (62'). However, Fayoum succeeded to come back in the game, and the referee gave them easily a penalty for a foul on Ahmed Hassan, who had stolen a ball from a Beni Suef defender after a throw, and was negligently tackled inside the box. Jaber Jaber, who had scored from a penalty in the previous game, away at Tahta, executed the penalty, but this time he was denied by the goalkeeper Sherif Medhat, who guessed correctly Jaber's intentions (73').
Despite their situation, Fayoum struggled to win the game even in ten men, and pushed more and more in the attack, while Beni Suef counterattacked vigorously. One of these breaks gave them the lead: a cross from the right side was headed in by substitute Mohamed Ashraf El Badil, from the center of the box: 0-1 (85'). In the final minutes, Fayoum attacked with almost all the players, to no avail.
