After a break of more than a month due to Ramadan, the Egyptian Second Division resumed and Fayoum had the honor of playing the first game in Group A on Monday, against last classified Tahta.

The new manager of Fayoum, Saad Farouk, has probably prepared well the match, because Fayoum players looked very determined. The visitors had a surprisingly offensive start, but Fayoum soon took control of the game, and took the lead by Ahmed Al Qarmouti (assisted by Ahmed Saleh), whose shot from the center of the box went in: 1-0 (19'). Tahta had the opportunity to equalize (26') but Fayoum doubled their advantage, as Ahmed Hassan's shot from just outside the box surprised the goalkeeper: 2-0 (34').

In the second half, Fayoum adopted a more conservative strategy and gave away the initiative to the visitors. This proved to be wrong, because Tahta succeeded to equalize shortly, scoring one goal after another, first by a long range shot of Muhammad Khalaf and then by Youssef Atay, who managed to control a long ball inside the area, and to send it home: 2-2.

After this rather shocking start of the second half, Fayoum players regained control of the match and had to start all over again. This time they did not stop from attacking, right until the end, so the goals were plenty. First, a great action by Anas Shendy was finalized with a perfect cross just in front of the goal, where Adham Hassan (who recently came in) only had to put it in: 3-2. The next three goals were the result of beautiful shots by Anas Shendy (4-2), Ahmed Hassan (5-2, the most beautiful goal of the evening) and Ahmed Al Qarmouti, after an individual action in the last minutes of the game: 6-2, the final score.

It could have ended all well for Fayoum, but right before the last minute, Ahmed Abd Elhakim (Fayoum) was sent off (89').

Fayoum starting XI: Mostafa Gaber "Dida" - Ali Abo Elela, Mahmoud Kamal "Schmeichel", Ahmed Abd Elhakim, Mostafa Ahmed Islam "Carlos" - Ahmed Al Qarmouti, Mahmoud Abd Elsalam Abu "Gresha", Karim Al Shafei, Ahmed Hassan - Anas Muhammad "Shendy", Ahmed Saleh. Manager: Saad Farouk. In the second half, several players were sent in, such as Adham Hassan, Ahmed Blidi, Ahmed Emad Dabbash, Mohamed Adel Gomaa.

This is a great start for the new manager, Saad Farouk, but this was also probably the easiest match they have to play before the end of the season. Eight matches are still to come, and Fayoum are only five points away from the relegation line. Now, they will have two difficult consecutive matches away, at Beni Suef and Qena.

The other matches of the round were played the next day, Tuesday, 18 May 2021, The first four classified have all won, distancing themselves even more from the rest of the teams.
