Fayoum continue their positive run, winning 1-0 over Media

Tuesday, 1 June 2021, 4 pm local time (2 pm UTC), Alassiouty Sport Resort, Fayoum, Egypt, the 25th round of the Egyptian Second Division, Group A.

Since Saad Farouk has become manager of Fayoum SC, the team registered only positive results, 3 wins and one draw in four matches. Their third win came against Cairo-based Media, a team which is fourth in the table, which had lost only four games during the whole season.

The match proved difficult for both teams, and balance was maintained for most of the time. In the first half, there were only a few long range shots, which usually went wide, and very few dangerous situations were created. The game was played mainly in the midfield, where there was a continuous battle for the control of the ball, which led to several injuries, one of them serious enough for a Media player, who had to be substituted.

In the second half, things changed significantly. Fayoum SC pressed much more, from the very beginning, clearly looking for a win. Goal chances arrived soon, and Karim Al Shafei missed a big opportunity from inside the box (68'). However, in the next minute, he scored: Mohamed Adel Gomaa executed a free kick close to the centre of the field, sending the ball into the box, the goalkeeper saved but sent the ball right in front, and Karim Al Shafei headed it in: 1-0 (69'). The visitors protested against the free kick, which led to the goal.

Ahmed Al Qarmouti could have doubled the advantage but miscalculated his shot (73'), while the visitors had their biggest chance in the 76th minute. In the final minutes, Media pressed for an equalizer, but the Fayoum defense handled very well their attacks.

Fayoum: Mostafa Gaber "Dida" - Mostafa Islam "Carlos", Mahmoud Kamal "Schmeichel" (Ahmed Abd Elhakim 86'), Ahmed Jamal, Mohamed Adel Gomaa - Ahmed Al Qarmouti, Karim Al Shafei (Hamad Al Hanbali 80'), Ahmed Emad Dabbash, Mahmoud Abd Elsalam Abu "Gresha" (Ahmed Hassan 80') - Ahmed Blidi (Anas Muhammad "Shendy" 60'), Ahmed Saleh. Manager: Saad Farouk.

In the other matches of the round, Eastern Company finally won, and increased their lead over Aluminium, which only succeeded a draw, and are now 3 points behind the leaders, just like El Minya. In the lower part of the table, the situation gets more complicated by each round, with many teams fighting to avoid relegation.

In the next round, Fayoum will play away at Dayrout, a match which may possibly determine the sixth classified, while Media will play again away, at Qena, a team which registered a record of five consecutive defeats and are now again deeply involved in the relegation-related troubles.
