Eighth consecutive loss for 1. FK Svidník, 3-0 to FK Poprad

Sunday, 12 September 2021, 3:30 pm local time (1:30 pm UTC), Mestský futbalový štadion, Svidník, Slovakia, 8th round of the Slovak Third League - East Group (3. Liga - Východ).

1. FK Svidník continues to stay at the bottom of the table without a single point after eight matches of the 2021-2022 season. This time they lost at home, 3-0 to FK Poprad, a team which has just been relegated from the Second League, but it is under reconstruction, so a good result could be obtained.

Actually, in the first half, Svidník could have scored several times and taken the lead. In the start of the game, Daniel Jucha had a great one-on-one situation with the Poprad goalkeeper but was unable to score (4'). Then, L'ubomír Kubis had a nice shot but hit the near post (20'). After a remarkable action on the right by Rafael Guman, the same L'ubomír Kubis was in position to score from the middle of the box, but missed (37').

The visitors had a couple of dangerous shots, saved by Anton Dzupina, and took the lead against the course of play right before half time: captain Milan Ondruš sent a long ball beyond Svidník defenders to Marián Dzurjo, his shot was saved by Dzupina, but the ball deflected to Marek Kapral, who was in the right place at the right time and sent it in: 0-1 (43').

This goal might have demoralized the young Svidník players, whose second half was worse than the first. FK Poprad maturely maintained possession and control of the game, playing mostly in the opposite half, not leaving space in their defense. The home side was unable to put some pressure on the visitors. Even more, FK Poprad doubled their advantage after a cross from the left side, a header, then the ball deflected from the feet of Kamil Kasperkowicz into his own goal, misleading Dzupina: 0-2 (72').

The match was fully sealed when both Svidník centre backs had to go out: Adam Košč because of an injury, while Kamil Kasperkowicz was shown a red card for a foul in the position of last defender (79'). The visitors had several good goal-scoring opportunities in the final minutes of the game, they even scored a goal, cancelled for offside (89'), and a shot to the post. Eventually, the final score was established in extra-time by Patrik Gajan, with a beautiful shot from outside the box: 0-3 (90'+2').

Svidník: Dzupina - T. Čabala, Košč (Gajdoš 80'), Kasperkowicz, D. Čabala - Shliakhov - Guman, Jucha, Oravec, Kubis - Haško (Haňak 61'). Manager: Lech Czaja.

Poprad: Dlubáč - Ondruš, Lajčák, Matalík (Weiss 55'), Gajan, Natchkebia (Barnáš 46', Wojtanek 81'), Pollák, Živčák, Kapral, Vaščák, Dzurjo. Manager: Vladimír Lajčák.

Referee: Oliver Šuba.

Yellow cards: Shliakhov 61' - Dzurjo 48', Gajan 62', Weiss 89'.

Red card: Kamil Kasperkowicz 79'.
