Fayoum and Telephonat Beni Suef drew 0-0 in the 15th round of the Egyptian Second Division

Saturday, the 27th of February 2021, 2.30 pm local time (12.30 pm UTC), Alassiouty Sport Resort, Fayoum, Egypt, the 15th round of the  Egyptian Second Division, Group A.

Fayoum's manager, Ahmed Bakri, needs to be concerned. Source: Fayoum SC Facebook page

In the last round of the first half of the season, Fayoum and Telephonat Beni Suef met al Alassiouty Sport Resort, the present (and probably temporary) home ground for both of them, so both were actually "home", although Fayoum were officially the hosts.

The game was mostly dominated by Fayoum players, who had the ball, but were unable to get through Telephonat defensive lines. Several important players, such as Anas Shendy, Hussein Khaled or Adham Hassan, missed from the Fayoum line-up, and this was noticeable especially in the attack.

The final score, 0-0, was however very much in line with happened in the field, despite the overall higher ball possession of Fayoum. Telephonat ended their winning streak, but they may be happy with one point, given the conditions.

Fayoum starting XI: Mostafa Dida - Ahmed Jamal, Hamad Al Hanbali, Ahmed Emad Dabbash, Ahmed Abd Elkarim, Abdullah Rashed, Karim Al Shafei, Ahmed Hassan, Mohamed Adel Gomaa, Ala Al-Din Metwally, Ahmed Blidi. Manager: Ahmed Bakri.

Fayoum finishes the first half of the season in mid-table, much better than in the previous two seasons, but worse than initially expected given the optimistic perspectives laid out by the new sponsor and the new manager. They are no less than 16 points away from the first place, therefore any talk about promotion is nonsensical. The team needs to struggle to remain in the first half of the table, as far as possible from the relegation line, which is now just 6 (six) points away.

The second half of the season will start next week. Fayoum will play again at home, this time against a better team, Aluminium.
