Tallinna FC Starmedia continues on its own, no longer linked to Maardu Linnameeskond II

At the beginning of the 2025 season, Tallinna FC Starmedia merged with the second team of Maardu Linnameeskond to play in the Estonian Second League B, South-East Group, where they finished third, very close to the second place, which would have allowed them to participate in the promotion play-offs for the Second League (fourth tier in Estonia).

Despite the relatively good results, the two separated at the beginning of 2026. The main team of Maardu Linnameeskond promoted to Esiliiga (the second tier in Estonian football) but remained without a second team, because Tallinna FC Starmedia decided to continue on its own in the 2026 season of the Estonian Second League B, South-East Group, which has just started. Yesterday, in the first round, Tallina FC Starmedia won 5-0 at home over JK Kuusalu Kalev. The name Maardu Linnameeskond II is no longer there, and it seems that, for the moment, the club has not registered the second team in any of the lower Estonian leagues.

Maardu Linnameeskond II FC Starmedia reached nine consecutive wins with this 4-1 victory over their opponents Lasnamäe FC Ajax, but this is not enough to classify on top of the group or at least among the top two, which have access to promotion or promotion play-offs to the Second League (fourth tier in Estonian football). There are still three rounds to go, but there is little hope that one or both of the teams in top two would lose points anywhere so that Maardu Linnameeskond II FC Starmedia would also have a chance for promotion.

Regarding the match itself, the score might wrongly imply that it was an easy one for Maardu Linnameeskond II FC Starmedia. The first goal came only towards the end of the first half, when Sergei Mištšenko, the goalscorer of the Second League B, converted a penalty for Maardu II FC Starmedia: 1-0 (39').

After the break, they increased their advantage by Pavel Marašov (2-0 in 52'), but Ajax stroke back due to a ball which was mistakenly deviated into his own goal by Maardu II goalkeeper, Stiven Raider: 2-1 (55').

The match remained rather tense and the result unclear until the final minutes. Artjom Ostrovski made 3-1 (72') and Sergei Mištšenko established the final score: 4-1 (83').

Maardu Linnameeskond II FC Starmedia has a fantastic winning streak since the beginning of August, including (so far) 7 wins in a row, one of them over former leaders Tallinna FC Smsraha, which had been unbeaten before that match. The last victim is Jõgeva SK Noorus-96, another top team, which came to Infoneti Lasnamäe Stadium after 6 wins and a draw in the second half of the competition, and were about to take the lead if they were to win this game. It was not the case, and the situation gets even more complicated at the top of the table, with at least four teams having real chances for promotion, including Maardu Linnameeskond II FC Starmedia and Jõgeva SK Noorus-96.

The game started very well for the home side, which scored after less than 3 minutes by means of Artjom Ostrovski: 1-0 (3').

The visitors tried hard to equalize, and they eventually succeeded in the second half, as Jürgen Hiljurand scored: 1-1 (74').

However, their joy lasted only for a few minutes, because the goalscorer of the competition, Sergei Mištšenko, scored a brace for the home side (in 78' and 90'+1'), providing yet another win for Maardu Linnameeskond II FC Starmedia.
