After six winless games, Fayoum eventually wins 1-0 over Asyut Petroleum

Saturday, the 13th of February 2021, 2.30 pm local time (12.30 pm UTC), Alassiouty Sports Resort, Fayoum, Egypt, the 13th round of the Egyptian Second Division, Group A.

Fayoum badly needed a win after a negative run of six games, five in the league and one in the Egyptian FA Cup, in which they were either defeated or got a single point. The win finally came this Saturday, in a difficult game against Asyut Petroleum. Manager Ahmed Bakri made some changes in the line-up, and some of the regular players, like goalkeeper Mostafa Dida, defender Gaber Gaber, midfielder Ahmed Emad Dabbash or winger Ahmed Hassan were left out from the starting XI and (some of them) even out of the squad entirely. One of the reasons may be the short time the players had between the previous game, away at KIMA Aswan, and this match, combined with the fact that Fayoum has a large roster and manager Ahmed Bakri has plenty of choices, and a rotation between the players sometimes becomes a necessity.

Despite the absence of several key players, Fayoum started very well and Hussein Khaled scored the only goal of the game after 25 minutes.

The visitors tried to come back in the game, and their pressure increased significantly in the second half, but they had few opportunities, as Fayoum defended well and kept their advantage until the end.

Fayoum starting line-up: Islam Emad - Mahmoud Kamal ”Schmeichel”, Ayman Mazika, Hamad Al Hanbali, Ahmed Jamal - Hussein Khaled, Karim Al Shafei - Adham Hassan, Anas Shendy, Mohamed Adel Gomaa - Ahmed Blidi. Manager: Ahmed Bakri. Subs: Islam Magdy, Abdullah Rashed, Ahmed Hassan (among others).

In the next round, next Saturday, Fayoum will play away at Sohag, while Asyut Petroleum will face Media at home.
