This was only the second time that these two Cusco teams met in the First Division. The first time was in Apertura (the first half of the season) and Cusco FC, officially hosts then, had won 2-1. This time it was Deportivo Garcilaso turn to win, and the score was the same, 2-1.

The match could have gone in any direction, because the two teams shared almost equal periods of domination and control of the game. Deportivo Garcilaso attacked more in the beginning of the match, but Cusco FC managed to balance the game in the midfield and even to take control towards the end of the first half, when they also missed an excellent opportunity, by means of Ayarza (42').

It was in this period of the match when Deportivo Garcilaso took the lead, rather surprisingly, after a counterattack, led by Bazán on the right side, which finished with a cross inside the box, and centre back Alonso, trying to stop the ball, deflected it into his own goal leaving no chance to Ferreyra: 1-0 (45'+1').

Deportivo Garcilaso could even double their advantage one minute later, but Ferreyra saved Quevedo's shot (45'+2').

Nevertheless, Cusco FC started very well the second half and equalized quickly. Felucho Rodríguez took a corner from the left, and Ayarza headed from short range: 1-1 (49').

The situation changed again, with Deportivo Garcilaso seemingly more interested in taking the lead once again. Their pressure intensified, and a shot by Quevedo hit the post (66'), announcing the goal that was coming soon. Dioses crossed from the right side, Quevedo left the ball to Rojas, who controlled it, tricked Alonso, and directed the shot to the far post: 2-1 (68').

The final part of the game belonged to Cusco FC, which desperately tried to equalize, but they were unsuccessful. Tensions rose, as Deportivo Garcilaso players wasted time, and there were almost 13 minutes of stoppage time, about half of which were spent on a so-called injury of one Garcilaso player. The referee even awarded a red card to goalkeeper Ferreyra, but then, reviewing the action by means of VAR, changed his mind and changed the red for a yellow card.

Deportivo Garcilaso won deservedly, and continue their positive run, while Cusco FC are farther away from the fourth place (which would lead to Copa Libertadores) and they might even lose their place in Copa Sudamericana.
