Surprising 1-0 home defeat for Real Garcilaso against Universitario de Deportes

The last home game for Real Garcilaso in 2018 turned into a nightmare on Saturday evening, the 10th of November 2018. Real Garcilaso needed a win to keep awake the dream of qualifying for the play-offs while Universitario de Deportes were only dreaming of reaching a spot for Copa Sudamericana.
Despite a very high number of opportunities, Real Garcilaso was unable to score. The crowd in Cusco was even more astonished when the visitors took the lead at the beginning of the second half, in the 51st minute, by means of Lavandeira. The game ended shockingly 1-0 for Universitario.
Real Garcilaso: Ortiz - Arismendi, Kontogiannis, Canova, Cossio (79 Landauri) - Aucca, Archimbaud (55 Alessandrini) - Vidales (69 Lecaros), Ramua, Santillan - Rengifo. Head coach: Victor Reyes.
With only one game remaining, away at Ayacucho, Real Garcilaso lost all chances to qualify for the play-offs, as Alianza Lima has now a 6 point advantage in the aggregate table. Sporting Cristal has qualified directly for the finals, while FBC Melgar and Alianza Lima will play the semifinals, regardless of the results in the last round, scheduled two weeks from now, due to the break caused by the games played by national teams.
More than that, Real Garcilaso are yet uncertain concerning their fourth place overall, which is still reachable by Deportivo Municipal, only 2 points behind in the aggregate table. Luckily for them, Deportivo Municipal only managed a 2-2 draw at home against the future opponents of Real Garcilaso, Ayacucho. Real Garcilaso need to win in Ayacucho or to hope that Deportivo Municipal will not win their game, away at Sport Huancayo.
The 8th place in the aggregate table might also generate some interest in the last round, as it is within reach for Binacional, Universidad de San Martin and Universitario de Deportes, all of them wishing to play in Copa Sudamericana. The other team qualified for the Copa Sudamericana are Universidad Tecnica de Cajamarca and Sport Huancayo, as well as Deportivo Municipal, if they do not overcome Real Garcilaso in the last round.
Sport Rosario and Comerciantes Unidos are already relegated.
