Deportivo Municipal and Cusco FC drew 1-1 in the fifth round of the Second Stage (Peruvian First Division)

Tuesday, the 10th of November 2020, 3.30 pm local time (8.30 pm UTC), Monumental Stadium (neutral ground), Lima, Peru, 5th round of the Second Stage, Group B, Peruvian Liga 1.
Cusco FC started the game with 1-0 down, because the referee Augusto Menéndez gave a penalty for Deportivo Municipal very early, for a supposed foul of Saravia over Succar in the area (2'). Juan Jeremias Bogado executed and gave Muni the lead, 1-0 (3'). After this, Cusco FC was the only offensive team in this game, struggling excessively hard to score an equalizer. The amount of goal opportunities was amazing, but they either missed, or goalkeeper Melián saved. Ramua's free kick went wide for just a little (9'), but Deportivo Municipal remained dangerous on the counterattack, as proved by Archimbaud (22'). Cusco's pressure increased towards the end of the first half. Carando was denied by Melián inside the area (39'), then from the penalty spot (42'), a penalty given for a foul of Córdova against the same Carando. Melián saved two more balls just before half time, a spectacular but not so efficient bicycle kick by Paniagua (43') and another shot by Carando (44').
In the second half, Deportivo Municipal tried to provide more football and balanced the game, although their attacks were not so dangerous, but at least kept the ball away from their own goal. Still, Cusco FC had plenty of opportunities. Another free kick by Ramúa hit the crossbar, the ball came back to Saravia, whose shot hit a defender on the goal line (62'). Cusco's pressure intensified after Caballero was sent off for a second yellow card (71'). Melián saved a header by Carando (74') but could do nothing when Pósito executed a penalty given for Mansilla's foul on Saravia: 1-1 (76').

It is strange that Cusco FC did not push more for a winning goal. Crosses from either side flowed, but Saravia's (83') and Paniagua's (86') headers went above the cross bar. The referee wanted to show who the boss is and sent off Palacios (87') for a second yellow card, for protests, re-establishing numerical equality. In the remaining minutes, however, neither team was capable of scoring the winning goal.
