Sport Boys ended the positive run of Cusco FC in the Second Stage (Clausura) of the Peruvian Liga 1

Monday, the 2nd of November 2020, 11 am local time (4 pm UTC), Iván Elias Moreno Stadium, Lima (neutral ground), the 3rd round of the Second Stage (Clausura) of the Peruvian First Division, Group B.
Cusco FC started very well the Second Stage (Clausura) with two wins in the first two matches and was beginning to dream about the play-offs, as they managed to get those points playing against theoretically better opponents - at least according to the final First Stage (Apertura) table. When they faced a lower classified opponent, like Sport Boys, they followed the example of their previous opponents and lost. Sport Boys are really struggling to get out of the dangerous relegation area, and seemed to have prepared the game in detail. They controlled most of the first half, while there were not really too many chances, but enough to show which team wants to win the game. Cusco FC played hesitantly in attack, preferring to stay mostly in defence, and to try something on the counter. It didn't really work out.
In the second half, all that Sport Boys expected was a tremendous mistake in the defence. And it emerged quite early: two Cusco defenders invited each other to take the ball, Sebastián Penco robbed the ball from them, passed to Claudio Villagra, who found the net from the centre of the area: 0-1 (50'). Only then Cusco FC reversed to its usual game of possession and attack, but they hardly reached the opponents' goal. On the other hand, Sport Boys played enthusiastically and a cross from Luis Cáceres on the right was headed in from the area by Sebastián Penco: 0-2 (72'). Mimbela and Pósito strengthened Cusco FC for the final quarter of an hour plus seven minutes of stoppage time, and the results were soon on the scoreboard. Miguel Carranza eventually succeeded to get passed the defenders on the right, entered the area and assisted Carando, whose header went in: 1-2 (84'). Cusco FC pushed hard for an equalizer in the last minutes, but it was not their day.

Cusco FC: Pretel - Chávez, Paniagua, Delgado (Pósito 74'), Céspedes (Boló 89') - Atoche (Carranza 46'), Valenzuela, Gonzales - Ramúa (Mimbela 74'), Carando, Sandoval (Palacios 65'). Manager: Carlos Ramacciotti.
Sport Boys: Medina - Tejada, Riojas, Ampuero, Joao Ortiz (Oncoy 74') - Torrejón, Tragodara (Uribe 67'), Cáceres (García 74'), Villagra (Ratto 74') - Huguenet, Penco. Manager: Teddy Cardama.
Referee: Edwin Ordóñez.
Yellow cards: Atoche 21', Mimbela 87' - Joao Ortiz 66', Huguenet 87', Uribe 90'+5'.
It was only the second defeat of Carlos Ramacciotti as manager of Cusco FC, and it is the second consecutive win for Sport Boys, which are slowly getting out of the danger zone. The next round will be very soon: Sport Boys will face Deportivo Municipal on Thursday, the 5th of November, while Cusco FC will play against Sport Huancayo on Friday, the 6th of November. Both sides will probably have a number of injured players as a result of this game: Ray Sandoval (Cusco FC) seems to be one of them, and José Rivera missed the game because of a previous injury and is uncertain. Rivera and Sandoval are both important players for Cusco FC attack, while Saravia and Vílchez are missing in the defence. Still, Cusco FC will have a good chance on Friday if they reverse to their usual game, which provided them 6 points so far in this Second Stage.
