Great game which met all the expectations on Friday afternoon, the 21st of June, in the first round in Group G of Copa Bicentenario, the new "cup" competition in Peru. The first ever game in this competition was played in Cusco between the local rivals Cienciano (now in Liga 2) and Real Garcilaso (Liga 1). Cienciano were officially the "hosts", although both teams share the same stadium, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, as their home ground. Supporters of both teams, in red (Cienciano) or sky blue (Garcilaso), came in large numbers to the stadium to see a local derby that was missing from their agenda since 2015, when Cienciano were relegated to the Second Division.
Marcelo Grioni's Cienciano had an expected good start of the game and scored early, in the 10th minute: goalkeeper Ferreyra deflected Cuero's shot but was unable to do the same when Valencia came and scored from close range: 1-0.
Gradually, Real Garcilaso took control of the game and in the second half their domination was eventually materialized when Danilo Carando's header ended up in the net after a corner executed by Alfredo Ramua: 1-1 in the 63rd minute.
In the 80th minute, Pablo Miguez (Real Garcilaso) was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. However, even in 10 players, Real Garcilaso found a way to win the game. In stoppage time, Alfredo Ramua sent the ball into the net from a free kick more than 40 meters away: 1-2 in the 92nd minute.

The day started badly but ended up very well for Real Garcilaso and their head coach, Juan Reynoso, very well aware of the pride involved in this local Cusco derby. The next opponent for Real Garcilaso will be another Second Division club, Cultural Santa Rosa. Cienciano will play against Academia Cantolao in the second round of Copa Bicentenario.
