Sunday, 30 May 2021, 5 pm local time (3 pm UTC), Mestský futbalový štadion, Svidník, Slovakia, the 13th round of the Slovak Third League - East Group (3. Liga - Východ).
For 1. FK Svidník, every game must be played like a Champions League final, if they want to stay in the Third League the next year. A week ago, this attitude brought them a win, but this time MFK Vranov nad Topl'ou proved to good and, despite the efforts made by the Svidník football players, the visitors eventually won a match which was goalless until the very end.
There was not much football played in the first half. Most of the game took place in the midfield, where harsh battles were fought for the control of the ball, with few serious goal chances. MFK Vranov was a little better overall, but their only chance came in the 12th minute, when a dangerous tackle inside the box could have resulted in a penalty for the visitors, but the referee did not award it.
The second half was much more intense, and the pressure intensified especially on 1. FK Svidník defense. Goalkeeper Mikluš had to save several good shots. The only chance for the home side was missed by Kočan (68'), whose shot was easily saved by goalkeeper Kapral'. The visitors made several changes, which proved decisive in the final minutes, because two subs succeeded to score. First, a strong shot by Jakub Vodilka was saved by Adam Mikluš, but the ball was deflected right into the feet of Maruš Jakubov, who finalized from short range: 0-1 (88').
The home side pushed for an equalizer in the short time which remained, but they were instead punished by Dominik Sabol, who scored after a beautiful individual action: 0-2 (90'+2').
Svidník: Mikluš - Košč (Makara 20'), Hudák, Zapotocký, Matkobiš - Kočan (Potoma 76'), Tokar, Paňko, Gajdoš - Sova, Hlávka. Manager: Stanislav Baran.
Vranov: Kapral' - Lukáč, Babjak, Kozel, Hreha, Verčimák (Straka 89'), T. Mikluš, Burcák (Jakubov 70'), Vodilka, Ficko (Kertis 58'), Milenky (Sobol 70'). Manager: Roman Lazúr.
Referee: Pavol Leško.
There were no cards given.
Several things became clear after this round. First of all, 1. FC Tatran Prešov lost again, and their chances for promotion have disappeared completely. FK Humenné won easily and are 99% promoted; their mathematical promotion would probably be decided in the next days. Odeva Lipany remained theoretically their only rival for the first place, but it is more like "mission impossible" to them, because Humenné only needs one more win to make sure they are in the Second League.
In the lower part of the table, there are some good news and some bad news for 1. FK Svidník. The good news is that they are still above the relegation line, because both Slovan Giraltovce and Milénium Bardejovská Nová Ves have lost. The bad news is that almost everybody else won, so the fight to avoid relegation seems to be focused on these three teams, with two rounds to go (and one postponed match for Bardejovská Nová Ves). Another bad news for 1. FK Svidník is that their next game is away at leaders FK Humenné, where the chances of getting even one point are very-very slim (almost none).
