Goalless draw in Callao between Sport Boys and Real Garcilaso

On Friday evening, the 12th of April, Sport Boys and Real Garcilaso played at Miguel Grau Stadium in Callao in the 9th round of the Peruvian Apertura. The match started only after an emotional moment involving the players of both teams, including the substitutes, who all came together and embraced each other symbolically pledging against the violence perpetrated by some supporters.
The match itself was above average despite the absence of goals. Both teams had their chances, Sport Boys mainly in the first half and Real Garcilaso mainly in the second half. The two goalkeepers, Ortiz (Sport Boys, former Garcilaso goalkeeper) and Ferreyra (Real Garcilaso), saved several strong shots and were among the best players in the field.
Sport Boys: Ortiz - Sproat (90+1 Ratto), De La Haza, Reategui (19 Chang), Mondragon, Tejada - Ross (79 Olascuaga), Urquiaga, Tragodara, Chavez - Peralta. Head coach: Manuel Fernandez.
Real Garcilaso: Ferreyra - Arismendi, Balbin, Dulanto, Benincasa (53 Souza), Cossio - Nunez, Miguez, Ismodes (68 Ramua) - Lecaros (73 Rengifo), Carando. Head coach: Juan Reynoso.
Referee: Luis Seminario.
It is interesting to note that Juan Reynoso did not use the usual pair of central defenders, Robles and Quina, who were not even on the bench, preferring Balbin and Dulanto, and the presence of Ismodes in midfield came also as a surprise, as players like Souza and Ramua were on the bench and were introduced only during the second half to improve the attack.
The result does not help too much any of the teams. Sport Boys remain bottom of the table and the gap between them and the other teams continues to increase. Real Garcilaso have indeed moved up one spot into the third position, but they are now 8 points below leaders Deportivo Binacional. Nevertheless, Real Garcilaso will meet second-placed Sporting Cristal on Friday afternoon, at home in Cusco, and therefore have the opportunity to get closer at least to the second position if they win.
