While the 2019-2020 Egyptian Premier League resumed at the end of July, with plenty of games to play, only five rounds remained to be played in the 2019-2020 Egyptian Second Division, and the Egyptian FA decided to restart the competition on Sunday, the 20th of September, so the competition will end in the second half of October 2020. There are more than 6 months since the last game was played, on the 11th of March 2020, and the competition was then stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than six month without official football games for the Second Division clubs means a lot of time, and all the teams started preparations as soon as possible. Fayoum SC players and staff underwent the COVID-19 tests on the 11th of August, and one person was found to be positive. After other preventive measures, training resumed at the end of August and several friendly matches were played at the beginning of September, Fayoum SC winning 2-1 over Telephonat Beni Suef, for example. There are some changes in the roster.
If the relegation system remains the same in the Second Division, then it will be very difficult for Fayoum SC to avoid relegation in the five remaining rounds. Every game will be decisive and any result other than a win would be a step further towards relegation. Their first official game will be on Sunday, the 20th of September, at 3.30 pm local time, away at Al Minya. Al Minya are also fighting to avoid relegation, so the game will be a tough one.
