Cusco FC started training with 25 confirmed players, 14 new

Cusco FC started the training sessions, under the command of manager Carlos Ramacciotti. After more than a month of holiday / break at the end of 2020 and the first days of 2021, the club is ready to face a new season in the Peruvian First League. The month of December was very important for renewals and new signings, but there were a few contracts signed also after the New Year's Eve.

After a rather disappointing season, it was somehow expected that most of the players would leave, and new players would come. It is also one of the unfortunate characteristics of this club, to change the roster almost completely every year. However, this time it was a little bit different, with several important players who stayed. Apart from Argentinian Alfredo "Chapú" Ramúa, who is already a legend for the club, with his record 300 appearances across all competitions, there are others who were convinced to remain, like José Rivera, Miguel Carranza, Erick Gonzales, Jair Céspedes, and goalkeeper Juan Pretel. These are actually the players who made the best impression in 2020. To them, one should add the local youngsters, who played less, but are very important for the club identity: Miguel Aucca, José Velásquez, Jhon Cutimbo, James Morales, and Jairo Uscamayta. Overall, 11 players renewed their contracts for 2021, which is quite an increase compared to previous years. Other local young players might be added to the extended squad.

The newcomers are more numerous. They include several come-backs, such as Diego Minaya. Edson Aubert or Mauricio Montes, who all played some time ago for Real Garcilaso (the former name of Cusco FC). Manager Carlos Ramacciotti brought several players he knew from Sport Huancayo, like goalkeepers Federico Nicosia and Éder Hermoza, or defenders Manuel Corrales and Carlos Caraza. Most of the newcomers play in the defense, which was the weak spot of Cusco FC in 2020. Two of the foreigners, Uruguayan Gonzalo Rizzo and Colombian Anier Figueroa, are defenders and might form an excellent couple of center backs.

In midfield, Uruguayan Matías Abisab, as well as two other newcomers, Edson Aubert and Yorkman Tello, are expected to help out the already existing players, Erick Gonzales and Alfredo Ramúa.

In attack, Cusco FC succeeded in retaining the two excellent wingers of 2020, José Rivera and Miguel Carranza, but striker and goalscorer Danilo Carando left, and it is hard to replace such a player. Argentinian Maximiliano Barreiro has been transferred to cover that position, while Mauricio Montes is a second option. Sandro Rengifo is a very promising forward, who could be used in several positions.
