Fayoum and Al Wasta started the new season with a goalless draw at the Police Academy Stadium (Ittihad El Shorta Stadium) in Cairo, the new home ground for Fayoum this season, given the endless works and lack of suitability of Fayoum Stadium.
Fayoum SC prepared well the 2023-2024 season, with a new manager, Saeed Sobhi, who had also managed them in 2021-2022. They dominated most of the match and had several good opportunities to break the deadlock, but Ashraf Zidan was blocked on a one on one with the goalkeeper, or his shot hit the crossbar in another occasion. Ahmed Salah's header was saved by the Al Wasta goalkeeper, while Taher Saad and Mahmoud Sami missed excellent opportunities in the second half.
All in all, Fayoum may complain for not getting all the points in this game, but credit must be given also to Al Wasta players, who defended very well and created dangerous counterattacks, a tactics designed and implemented by their manager, Ali Hussein.
In the next round, Fayoum will play away at Telephonat Beni Suef, while Al Wasta will face Tamya at home.
