8 consecutive wins for Cusco FC, Deportivo Binacional out of the league

Cusco FC 1-0 Alianza Atlético de Sullana

Callejo 25'

Sunday, 17 August 2025, 6.30 pm local time (11.30 pm UTC), Inca Garcilaso de la Vega Stadium, Cusco, Peru, 6th round of Clausura, Peruvian First Division (Liga 1).

Cusco FC continue their exceptional winning streak, reaching 8 consecutive wins and 14 consecutive matches unbeaten in the Peruvian First Division, in the second half of Apertura and now in the beginning of Clausura. However, due to the peculiarities of the league, they are only second in the Clausura table (although they won all the matches, they have played one match less than Sporting Cristal) and will probably be third because Deportivo Binacional have been removed from the league with immediate effect and all their results in the Clausura will be cancelled, including their defeat to Cusco FC. It is interesting to note that Binacional results in the Apertura will stay, so this 2025 season will be very special, with 19 teams in the Apertura and 18 in the Clausura, as Binacional got relegated more than half-way into the season. For the moment, we will publish the tables including the results of Binacional until there will be a final (100%) decision from the league officials and the Peruvian Football Federation that Binacional are out for good, because this brings consequences for many other teams, actually for all the teams involved in the Peruvian First Division.

Back to the Sunday match between Cusco FC and Alianza Atlético, it must be said that it was a narrow win for Cusco FC, as the score (1-0) shows. In the beginning it looked like Cusco FC will have no problems in getting a win, as they clearly dominated the field, they had most of the ball possession (76%) in the first 30 minutes, they had many opportunities. The only goal of the game came naturally, with Valenzuela assisting Callejo in the box, and the leading goalscorer of the league, Facundo Callejo, found the net with a good shot, despite opposition from a defender and the goalkeeper: 1-0 (25').

The good game made by Cusco FC continued for a while, but towards the end of the first half the visitors gave the first signs that they also exist in the field, and had their first opportunity: Olmedo's shot from a free kick just outside the box, right through the wall, was blocked by goalkeeper Díaz (45'+1').

In the second half the match was much more balanced. Cusco FC could have extended their lead, but missed several opportunities, especially by means of Facundo Callejo. On the other side, Alianza Atlético gave a much better reply and tried to equalize, and were not far from it. Cusco goalkeeper Díaz had some crucial saves, against shots by Castro (73') and Pérez (74'), among others.

Cusco FC succeeded to preserve their advantage right until the final whistle, but this match proved more difficult than expected. Their next game will be away at Juan Pablo II College.

Cusco FC: P. Díaz - Ruidías (Zevallos 77'), Fuentes, Gamarra, Ampuero - Valenzuela, Díez - Silva (Tévez 82'), Colman, Da Silva (Aoki 89') - Callejo (Milesi 89'). Manager: Miguel Rondelli.
