Fayoum SC managed to win 2-1 away at Sohag on Thursday, 11 April, in the second to last round of the Egyptian Second Division, Group A. This may prove decisive, as Al Nasr Lel Taa'den lost 2-1 at Beni Suef and now the two teams fighting to avoid relegation to the Third Division have the same number of points with one game to spare. Given that the second criterion to separate teams is the direct result, Fayoum is now in advantage, as they won 1-0 at home and drew 1-1 away at Al Nasr Lel Taa'den. It means that Fayoum need to win the last round match at home against third-placed Media to be sure to remain in the Second Division the next year, regardless of the result of Al Nasr Lel Taa'den, who will play also at home against Sohag.
At Sohag, Fayoum played bravely knowing that a win was absolutely necessary to maintain the hopes of remaining in the Second Division. Karim Al Shafei scored for Fayoum in the 20th minute but joy lasted only for a minute, as the home side equalized immediately by means of Mustafa Samara in the 21st minute.
Fayoum started well the second half and succeeded to score the winning goal in the 50th minute, by means of Mohamed Mahmoud. The team coached by Magdy Tolba preserved the 2-1 result until the end of the game.
This win is crucial but it would mean nothing without a further positive result in the last round, at home against Media, on Thursday, 18 April. In order to be saved from relegation, Fayoum need at least the same result as Al Nasr Lel Taa`den, and the only certain way is to obtain the victory.
