Good game, but no goals: Cusco FC - Sport Huancayo 0-0 in the fourth round of the Second Stage (Peruvian Liga 1)

Friday, the 6th of November 2020, 11 am local time (4 pm UTC), Iván Elias Moreno Stadium, Lima (neutral ground), Peru, the 4th round of the Second Stage (Clausura), Peruvian Liga 1.
Sport Huancayo came to Lima after they have just won 2-1 away to Liverpool in Uruguay and qualified for the last 16 of Copa Sudamericana: and this was their strength, in moral terms, and their weakness, in physical terms, because they were obviously tired. Cusco FC did not benefit from this, although they tried their best: actually both teams left everything on the ground, but were unable to score.

To tell the truth completely, Sport Huancayo did score once, at the beginning of the second half (49'), but the goal was mistakenly cancelled for offside. Before that, in the first half, Cusco FC started better, but gradually Sport Huancayo balanced the game and had the best shots, by Monsalvo (14') and Caraza (34'), while Cusco FC also had their chances, mainly due to shots from outside the area, like those of Ramúa (12') and Atoche (41'), but both goalkeepers saved.

The second half was much better in every aspect, and both teams had clear goal opportunities, but missed incredibly, or the goalkeepers had excellent saves. Sport Huancayo had a few ones, especially in the beginning of the half, including the cancelled goal (49'), but Cusco FC pressured a lot more. Miguel Carranza was denied twice by Pinto, Huancayo's goalkeeper; the second one was really the save of the match (72'). A cross from Valenzuela on the right gave Carando the much expected chance, but his shot went above the crossbar (80'), while a header by Paniagua also went wide (83').
In the end, both teams seemed content with a draw, but Cusco still had a great chance in the stoppage time, as Céspedes managed very well a ball inside the area, instead of shooting preferred a pass to Pósito, who missed completely the target (90'+2').
Cusco: Pretel - Chávez, Paniagua, Saravia, Céspedes - Valenzuela, Gonzales - Carranza (Gutiérrez 74'), Ramúa (Boló 70'), Atoche (Mimbela 46') - Carando (Pósito 89'). Manager: Carlos Ramacciotti.
Huancayo: Pinto - Caraza (Carmona 46'), Kambou, Balta, Vega (Bazán 61') - Valverde (Velásquez 83'), Rojas - Peña (Ángeles 46'), Lliuya, Morales (Campos 68') - Monsalvo. Head coach: Wilmar Valencia.
Referee: Hibert Villegas.
Yellow cards: Valenzuela 18' - Carmona 50', Rojas 82', Campos 85'.
Red cards: both assistant managers, Marco Ramacciotti (Cusco FC) and Juan Pérez (Sport Huancayo), were sent off in the second half for protests.
Both defences played very well and deserve credit for this goalless draw. Boló entered for Cusco FC in the last 20 minutes and had a good performance. In the next round, Sport Huancayo will face Ayacucho on Monday, the 9th of November, while Cusco FC will play against Deportivo Municipal on Tuesday, the 10th of November.
