On Saturday afternoon, the 16th of March, Bourj FC played away to Shabab Al Arabi, at Safa Stadium in Beirut, actually used also by Bourj as their home ground. Bourj fans were prevalent in the stands and cheered loudly, as their favourites won yet another match in the 19th round of the Lebanese Second Division.
Papy Thandoum scored for Bourj in the 15th minute but Qasim Abu Khoshafa equalized soon, in the 23rd minute. The game was rather balanced but Bourj eventually scored the winning goal in the 68th minute by means of their top goalscorer, former Palestinian international Wassem Abdelhady.
This result could have meant mathematical promotion for Bourj if Ahly Sidon had not won away to Shabab El Bourj. However, Ahly Sidon did win surprisingly, so Bourj needs antoher positive result in the remaining three rounds to be certain of promotion to the Lebanese Premier League.
Actually, this result should come in the next round, when Bourj will play at home, at Bhamdoun Stadium, against third-classified Ahly Sidon. A draw would be enough for Bourj to be 100% sure of promotion to the Lebanese Premier League. The game is scheduled on Sunday, 24 March, at 2.15 pm.
