On Saturday afternoon, the 9th of March, Real Garcilaso played at home against rivals FBC Melgar. Despite the minimum difference, 1-0, registered at the end of the game, Real Garcilaso were in real control of the game and could have scored a lot more. Melgar came with many young players because they are also involved in Copa Libertadores this year and a lot of importance is given to this competition, as opposed to the Peruvian First Division, at least for the moment.
Therefore, it was an easy win for Real Garcilaso. The only goal was score early, in the 17th minute, by Javier Nunez, whose shot from the edge of the area hit the net for 1-0. Real Garcilaso had plenty of other goal opportunities but were unable to finalize. The visitors rarely attacked and they did not succeed to bring any sort of danger to Real Garcilaso defence.
Real Garcilaso: Farro - Arismendi, Robles, Quina, Cossio - Archimbaud (70 Goyoneche), Miguez - Souza (70 Carando), Ramua, Nunez (40 Benincasa) - Rengifo. Head coach: Hector Tapia.
Melgar: Campos - Neyra, Ramos, Gamarra, Reyna (71 Narvaez) - Sanchez (81 Principe), Romero, Leudo - Tandazo, Posito, Guerrero (59 Avalos). Head coach: Jorge Pautasso.
Real Garcilaso have 9 points after 4 games and is fifth behind Sporting Cristal (12 points), Universitario (10 points), Binacional and Alianza Lima (9 points and better goal difference).
The next game for Real Garcilaso will be next Saturday afternoon, away at Alianza Universidad de Huanuco. This will be the third game away at a newly-promoted team; Real Garcilaso managed to win one (over Carlos Mannucci) and lost one (at Pirata FC).
