Academia Cantolao - Real Garcilaso 1-2 in the 12th round of the Peruvian Clausura

Saturday, the 19th of October 2019, 17:45 local time (22:45 UTC), Miguel Grau Stadium, Callao, Peru, the 12th round of the Peruvian Liga 1, Clausura.
Real Garcilaso win the first game on the road in the Clausura tournament, 2-1 away at Academia Cantolao. With these three points, Real Garcilaso is getting closer to the positions allowing participation to the Copa Sudamericana, while Academia Cantolao lost almost any chance to get to the same positions in the table. However, both teams enjoy a mid-table classification, far from the worries of relegation or the play-offs, with only five rounds to go before the end of Clausura (and of the season, for them).
Real Garcilaso had most of the ball possession throughout the game and most of the goal opportunities. In the first half, the shots from inside the area by Archimbaud (twice) and Nunez were either wide or saved by Nicosia. However, it was the home side which took the lead: a cross sent into Garcilaso area was headed out by Canova, and Ramirez, unmarked at the edge of the area, shot perfectly in the upper right corner of the goal: 1-0 (36').

In the second half, Real Garcilaso intensified their attacks. Cantolao defender Salas received a second yellow card and was sent off (59') because he clearly stopped Carando in the area after a cross. The referee awarded a penalty even if the ball crossed the goal line, but the goal was cancelled! However, the same Argentinian striker Carando executed the penalty and equalized: 1-1 (61').
The offensive power of Real Garcilaso grew in the final part of the game, as Ramua, Rengifo and Ismodes came in as substitutes, while the home side was down to ten men. After several chances, the winning goal finally came: Souza crossed from the left, Carando did not reach the ball as he was well marked by a defender, but the ball ended up in the back of the net, much to the surprise of the goalkeeper Nicosia: 1-2 (84').
The final minutes saw Academia Cantolao trying to come back in the game, with the only result that Labarthe was sent off after simulating a foul in the area (for which he received a yellow card) and then providing some strong comments to the referee.
