13th consecutive defeat for OFK Tryavna, 2-0 to Akademik Svishtov

Sunday, 9 May 2021, 3 pm local time (12 noon UTC), Angel Kanchev Stadium, Tryavna, Bulgaria, 30th round of the Bulgarian Third League, North-West Group (Severozapadna Treta Liga).

It is no surprise that OFK Tryavna lost again. They are already relegated, and all the teams that they play with want to get the three points, no matter what. This is even more the case of teams which are still fighting for something, like Akademik Svishtov, which are not yet entirely sure of their place in the next year Third League, so they needed a win to avoid relegation.

However, the match was much more disputed than one might have think, and OFK Tryavna were once again close to get at least one point. In the first half, they even had a good opportunity to score a goal. However, the visitors missed lots of many other chances, and they eventually succeeded to score, but only in the final quarter of the hour.

First, a shot by Georgi Kolev hit the crossbar, the ball came back luckily to Dimitar Kostadinov, who sent it in: 0-1 (76'). Akademik doubled their advantage by means of Mikhail Ganev, who was well assisted by Yavor Genchev to make it 0-2 (86').

OFK Tryavna: Miroslav Kirov - Georgi Atanasov, Vesko Karakolev, Oktay Azisov, Hussein Veisov, Stanislav Atanasov (Lachezar Kazakov 87'), Tsanko Slavov (Valentin Atanasov 87'), Ivelin Georgiev (Darin Nikolov 89'), Denis Dachev (Ivelin Stefanov 63'), Martin Shirtev, Aleksandar Damyanov (Tomislav Kolev 63'). Manager: Daniel Hristov.

Akademik Svishtov: Viktor Vladimirov - Stefan Traikov, Ivan Ganev, Georgi Yordanov, Darian Stanchev (Ivaylo Danailov 33'), Yavor Genchev, Emil Koparanov, Dimitar Kostadinov (Aleksandar Gospodinov 89'), Mikhail Ganev, Georgi Kolev (Simeon Boychev 87'), Kristian Anachkov. Manager: Evgeni Marinov.

Referee: Aleksandar Markov.

Yellow cards: Stanislav Atanasov 37', Tsanko Slavov 63'.

In the other matches, one notices that Vihar Slavyanovo were unable to win over FK Drenovets, while Levski 2020 Lom won 1-0 away at Spartak Pleven. These two combined results made a 12 point gap between the leaders Levski 2020 Lom and the second classified, Vihar Slavyanovo, meaning that Levski 2020 Lom are 99.9% promoted to the Second Division with 4 rounds to go. Mathematically, Levski 2020 Lom only need one point in the next four matches, regardless of Vihar's results. The only chance for Vihar is to win all matches, and Levski 2020 Lom to lose all remaining matches, which is extremely unlikely (if not impossible), given that Levski 2020 Lom have not lost a single match so far in the entire season.

The fight to avoid relegation continues in the lower part of the table. OFK Tryavna are already relegated, but the second team to be relegated is still to be determined. A new win by Bdin 1923 Vidin made the situation even tighter, so the next four rounds will be decisive in this respect. A postponed match from the 23rd round, between Peshtera Galata and OFK Levski 2007, might also have an impact on the table in its lower part.
