Saturday, 15 May 2021, 1:15 pm local time (6:15 pm UTC), Alejandro Villanueva Stadium (neutral ground), Lima, Peru, 8th round of Stage 1, Group B, Peruvian First Division (Liga 1).
This was an important match for both teams, because they are in a difficult situation, in the lower part of the table. Cusco FC is the only team in the Peruvian First Division which did not win a single match, while Deportivo Municipal won only two games, losing all the others. Since Claudio Vivas has been appointed as manager of Cusco FC, they had at least one man up in every game, this one included, but they were unable to win.

Cusco FC started better and scored very early: after a throw on the right side, Villano passed to Ramúa, who opened up to Barreiro, whose pass to Villano in the box practically rendered useless the opponents' defense, and Villano scored: 0-1 (5'). The problem with Cusco is that they give up ball possession after they score, and the same happened in this match. Deportivo Municipal controlled most of the first half, their pressure intensified, and eventually they equalized: a cross by Arakaki from the right side was headed in by Hernán Rengifo at the far post: 1-1 (41').
In the second half, Cusco changed their strategy and attacked again, looking for the win. Again, their mission looked easy to accomplish when Archimbaud received two yellow cards in just two minutes and was sent off (63'). Deportivo Municipal remained in ten, but focused more on the defense, giving up all offensive intentions. However, once again, Cusco FC did not know how to take advantage of this situation. Their only clear chance came when Barreiro headed a ball into the box, Arakaki missed the ball awkwardly, leaving Céspedes face to face with the goalkeeper, but his shot went wide (78'). In the final minutes, Cusco FC attacked with everyone, and Corrales had another chance from inside the box, but his shot went above the crossbar (90'+4').
Deportivo Municipal: Melian - Aguilar, Caballero, Cardoza, Neyra - Ascues (E. Ramírez 56'), Archimbaud, Cossío - Arakaki (Yovera 81'), H. Rengifo (Naranjo 81'), Velarde (Galli 64'). Manager: Franco Navarro.
Cusco FC: Enríquez - Figueroa, Rizzo, Rossi, Céspedes (S. Rengifo 85') - Aubert (Corrales 76'), Gonzales (Abisab 46') - Villano (Carranza 61'), Ramúa, Rivera - Barreiro. Manager: Claudio Vivas.
Referee: Miguel Espinoza.
Yellow cards: Cossío 42', Ascues 49', Archimbaud 61', 63' - Gonzales 40', Villano 57'.
For Cusco FC, this result is more like a defeat. For the fourth time in a row, they had at least one man more, for about half an hour, and did not take any profit out of it. Moreover, this time all the creative players were in the field in the final minutes of the game: Ramúa and Abisab in the centre, Carranza and Rengifo on the flanks, Rivera and Barreiro in the front. And still no result. Manager Claudio Vivas needs to think of an offensive strategy for this team, while his attacking players have a low individual outcome. The only good thing that may be noticed is that very young Villano (19 years old) scored his first goal in the First Division and looks like a good option for the compulsory under 20 player for Cusco FC, along with goalkeeper Enríquez.
In the last round of Stage 1, Cusco FC will play against Deportivo Binacional, another derby of the lower table, while Deportivo Municipal will face Universidad de San Martín de Porres.
