Fayoum SC (fifth in the table) and Asyut Petroleum (fourth) clashed in the last round of the first half of the season, fighting for the fourth place in the mid-season classification. Fayoum SC had the advantage of the home ground (although Alassiouty Sport Resort is just a temporary home) but needed to win to overcome their opponents in the table. Their last minute win away at Beni Suef gave them enough hopes for a similar performance. However, Asyut Petroleum had an excellent season so far and proved a very tough opponent, eventually winning quite astonishingly.
In the first half, the game was rather balanced, both teams having several chances to break the deadlock, but no goals were scored.
In the second half, Fayoum SC defenders were taken by surprise by several good offensive actions of the visitors, which gave them the lead and then secured the advantage. In first instance, a smart combination of passes left Walid Attia all alone in the right side of the box, and his shot went above Islam Emad Risha: 0-1 (58').
The hosts did not recover from the shock of the first goal, when Asyut Petroleum stroke again: this time a clever pass through the middle of a dreaming Fayoum defence opened the field up for Ali Al Farraji, and he scored with a well-balanced shot from just inside the box: 0-2 (60').
Fayoum SC players really tried to come back in the game, but the visitors resisted. The final blow for Fayoum SC came with ten minutes before the end, as Ali Al Farraji's shot from the half-way line surprised everyone, including goalkeeper Islam Emad Risha: 0-3 (80'). It was one of the greatest goals seen in the Second Division, and one of those rare executions one sees in a football match.
Starting line-ups:
Fayoum: Islam Emad Risha - Ali Abo Elela, Mahmoud Kamal "Schmeichel", Hossam Hassan, Ali El-Din Sakhr - Salah El-Din Rifaat, Mohamed Morsi - Ahmed Saleh, Mahmoud Abdelsalam Gresha, Sayed Mahmoud Kanaria - Alaa El-Din Metwally. Manager: Saeed Sobhi.
Asyut Petroleum: Muhammad Ramadan - Islam Salah, Arafa Shaaban, Muhammad Diab, Ali Al Hussein, Kwam Iboah, Ahmed Al Bahi, Jata, Mahmoud Kamal, Ali Abdel Mawla, Walid Attia. Manager: Hisham Abdel Moneim.
The round included several other surprises. The two leading Aswan teams lost, providing an opportunity for El Minya to take over the second place (on goal difference) and to reduce the gap to the top of the group. As the first half of the season is over, there will be a three-week "winter" break, which is also a transfer window. Fayoum SC had a good first half of the season, but there is always space for improvement and new players are expected to join in.
