Who could have thought that last classified 1. FK Svidník would be able to gather points away at MFK Vranov nad Topl'ou, one of the strongest teams in the pool?  Probably only their manager, Vladislav Palša, who conceived a very courageous tactics, similar to those seen in other matches, like the one against Tatran Prešov, when Svidník were thoroughly defeated.

The home side, in black, missed many opportunities. Svidník goalkeeper, Milan Vinclér (in orange), was one of the heroes of the match. Source: vranovske.sk

However, this was not the case this time. MFK Vranov started the match rather confidently that they would get an easy win, and missed carelessly some of their good chances to take the lead. The opposition of the visitors grew stronger as they realized that they might get a good result, if they defended well, and the interventions made by their goalkeeper, Milan Vinclér, helped the team of Svidník to remain in the game.

In the second half, the pressure of the home side increased, and one of the shots hit the side post, then went out, luckily for Svidník. The visitors continued to give an excellent reply, both defensively and offensively, and eventually they did break the deadlock. It was in fact a series of two very similar attacks. In the first one, Hirka crossed from the right side, and Špilár's shot from inside the box was saved by the goalkeeper Gurega. Less than a minute afterwards, Sova crossed from the right side, this time at the level of the ground, and Špilár had the time to prepare his shot, and he did not miss the target: 0-1 (66').

MFK Vranov felt the shock quite acutely, and started to launch attack after attack, but the visitors managed to absorb some of the pressure. Whenever needed, goalkeeper Milan Vinclér was there to save other shots, and even the posts and the crossbar did their job, for Svidník. Ever larger spaces were left in the Vranov defense, and the visitors were quick in taking advantage. In one of their fast breaks, Jozef Sova succeeded to get through on the right side again, and perfectly assisted Dávid Ivanecký on the far side of the box: 0-2 (87').

Even if they were two goals down, the Vranov boys tried until the end to break the opposite defense, and had two more excellent opportunities, denied mainly by Milan Vinclér, unbeatable. It was one of those days when the goal never comes. It did come however for Svidník, which obtain a very valuable win, the first one away from home this season, the first one in the field, three points which are very important in the fight to avoid the bottom position in which they are still.

Vranov: Gurega - Straka, Marcinko, Kulich, Verčimák, Milenky, Košuda, Hreha (Varga 87'), Veliký, Burcák, Szabó (Babjačok 82'). Manager: Roman Lazúr.

Svidník: Vinclér - Ducár, D. Čabala, Tatar, Makara - Ardishvili (Sova 46'), Pavlović, Ivanecký (Haňak 90') - Hirka, Špilár, Guman (Gajdoš 90'+2'). Manager: Vladislav Palša.

Referee: Radoslav Bobko.

Yellow cards: Pavlović 43', Makara 52', Ducár 76', Vinclér 90'.

For 1. FK Svidník, the next two matches might be very important and they have good chances to get out of the last place in the table. On Sunday, they will play at home against Mladost Kalša, a team which lost all the games in the second half of the season. On Wednesday, they will play away at Pokrok-SEZ Krompachy, a match from the first half of the season, that had to be postponed, due to the pandemic. It is one of their direct rivals in the lower part of the table.

In the upper part of the table, Tatran Prešov and FK Spišská Nová Ves are still level and the fight for promotion seems to be reduced to just these two teams.
