Fayoum lost 2-1 to Dayrout in the last game for both teams in the Second Division, while National Bank of Egypt gained promotion to the Premier League

Monday, the 12th of October 2020, 3 pm local time (12 noon UTC), MS Abnub Stadium, Dayrout, Egypt, the 22nd (last) round of the Egyptian Second Division, Group A.
The 2019-2020 season of the Egyptian Second Division eventually finished, at least for teams in Group A, while teams in Group B and Group C will play their last matches in the next days. Fayoum lost 2-1 away at Dayrout in a match which only had a symbolic importance for two teams which were already relegated before this round and had a long history in the Second Division. A history which ended (perhaps only temporarily) with this match, as they are both relegated to the Third Division for the next season.

The real drama took place elsewhere. National Bank of Egypt needed to win away at Asyut Petroleum to be sure of their promotion to the Egyptian Premier League for the first time in history. However, despite the apparent lack of real motivation for the part of Asyut Petroleum, which were in a secure mid-table position, National Bank of Egypt were held to a surprising 1-1 draw, that could have smashed their Premier League dreams. Everything depended on the match between Sohag and Aluminium, where both teams had something to win or lose. It ended 0-0 and they both actually lost: Sohag were relegated, as they needed a win to stay in the Second Division, and Aluminium did not promote, as they also needed a win. A win-win combination was impossible, but a lose-lose combination was surely possible... Even Beni Suef, which won 2-0 home over Tahta, had some hopes, but they needed National Bank to lose at Asyut, because otherwise they were behind them at head-to-head matches, and they could only finished second. Sohag also depended on the result of Telephonat Beni Suef, but there were no surprises: Telephonat won 2-0 away at already-relegated Media and remained in the Second Division with some luck.
