Sunday, the 22nd of September 2019, 15:30 local time (20:30 UTC), Lima, Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, eighth round of the Peruvian Clausura.
Alianza Lima and Real Garcilaso are two teams which once played a derby for the top spot of the Peruvian First Division. But now only Alianza has some chances of reaching the play-offs, while Real Garcilaso is in the lower part of the table after a disappointing season.
However, the game had the pace of a real derby, even if the two squads rarely reached the opposite goal. Alianza Lima started very determined, but Real Garcilaso soon balanced the game and even had a strong shot by means of Joao Ortiz, saved by Gallese. Alianza had a few opportunities, none quite clear, and the first half ended up goalless.
The second half started similarly, with the home side attacking. Herrera gave away a corner kick uselessly and from that corner came the only goal of the game: Riojas at the near post headed in front where Beltran simply put the ball into the net from close range: 1-0 (55').
The visitors took control of the game and attacked more and more. The pressure increased especially after Godoy was sent off for a second yellow card (74'). Nevertheless, Alianza defended well and resisted down to the end, despite some good efforts by Ramua and Carando, either saved by Gallese or missed by the Garcilaso forwards. Not even Rengifo, who came up in the last minutes, was able to score, although he had a good chance, when the ball came to him inside the area after a shot by Ramua saved by Gallese. Alianza could increase their advantage on the counterattack, but Manzaneda missed a good opportunity.

Alianza Lima are now second in the Clausura table and are looking foward enthusiastically to the next game, the derby against the leaders and all-time rivals Universitario de Deportes. Real Garcilaso continue their negative run and remain in the very low part of the table. On Friday, they will play at home (actually in Sicuani) against Sport Boys, a match that might prove important for the relegation.
