Ayacucho FC - Real Garcilaso 1-1 in the 14th round of the Peruvian Clausura

Saturday, the 2nd of November 2019, 15:00 local time (20:00 UTC), Ciudad de Cumana Stadium, Ayacucho, Peru, the 14th round of the Peruvian Clausura, Liga 1.
Ayacucho FC and Real Garcilaso are two of the teams fighting for a place in the next year Copa Sudamericana, as they have the same number of points in the aggregate table and no other objective for this season, with just four rounds to go before the end. Whoever wins have the best chance to achieve this objective, as only teams classified 5, 6 and 7 would qualify for the Copa Sudamericana, because one spot is reserved for the winners of Copa Binacional.
In the end, neither team won, and the draw is rather an advantage for other teams competing for the same positions in the table. In the first half, there were few goal opportunities. Grados saved a header by Rengifo after a corner by Ramua and the home side also had some chances, especially from long-range shots.

The second half was much more interesting. Ayacucho started better and created a few chances, but then Real Garcilaso charged more vigorously and had the biggest opportunities: first, a shot by Ismodes from the right wing went into the cross bar, then Joao Ortiz had an excellent run on the left and passed to Rengifo, all alone in the middle of the area, but unable to pass the ball beyond Grados.
When it seemed that the visitors were most likely to take the lead, the home side scored: Aguirre entered the area from the left, passed to Inga in the centre, who succeeded to place the ball near the side post: 1-0 (76').
Real Garcilaso clearly dominated the final minutes of the game and had several opportunities to equalize, especially because of the very offensive left side, with Joao Ortiz and Souza. Nevertheless, the goal came from the other side: Ramua crossed the ball from the right and Archimbaud's header from close range sent the ball in the back of the net: 1-1 (88').
Ayacucho: Grados - Perleche, Minaya, Souza, Mendieta - Inga, Nungaray - T. Carranza (Chavez 72'), Ardiles (Aguirre 59'), Preciado (L. Carranza 74') - Montes. Head coach: Mario Viera.
Real Garcilaso: Ferreyra - Arismendi, Canova, Quina, Joao Ortiz - Miguez (Nunez 84'), Archimbaud - Ismodes, Ramua, Lecaros (Souza 62') - Rengifo (Carando 80'). Head coach: Juan Chumpitaz.
Referee: Luis Seminario.
Yellow cards: Nungaray 79' - Joao Ortiz 42', Quina 55'.
Both teams have chances to play the next year Copa Sudamericana. In the next round, Ayacucho will play away to Universitario de Deportes, while Real Garcilaso will play at home against UTC Cajamarca. Real Garcilaso will then have a second consecutive game at home, against Union Comercio.
It has to be mentioned that Real Garcilaso, after a winless run of six games in the first part of Clausura, has now a very good series of results, including three consecutive wins and this draw. Eventually things seem to turn out for the better, and, besides the results, the team plays really well. Even at Ayacucho, Real Garcilaso had very good periods of time and could have scored first. The two consecutive games at home provide a good chance for them to improve their overall results in the Clausura and to save this season with at least a classification which allows them to participate in the 2020 Copa Sudamericana.
