Newly-promoted Eastern Company proved to be a very strong team and won the second consecutive match in the Second Divison to claim the top spot in Group A and to become an early pretender to promotion to the Egyptian Premier League. After winning 2-1 in the first round over Beni Suef, one of the main candidates for promotion, they repeated the deed against Fayoum in the second round, this time away, and even the score was the same.
Eastern Company took an early lead with a powerful and precise long-range shot by Kamir Khamis: 0-1 (4'). While Fayoum struggled to balance the game and to get an equalizer, the visitors had several great opportunities, especially on the counterattack, and they eventually doubled their advantage by means of Mohammad Hassan: 0-2 (39'). Fayoum succeeded to score their only goal in the last minute of the first half, when Hussein Khaled transformed a penalty given for a foul committed by the goalkeeper: 1-2 (45').
In the second half, both teams had further goal chances, but none of them were able to score. Eastern Company succeeded to preserve the favourable result, while Fayoum must reconsider their strategy concerning promotion.
