Real Garcilaso leads the classification of the Peruvian Clausura tournament, despite starting with a disappointing 2-2 draw at home against Sport Huancayo in the first round. In the next rounds, Real Garcilaso won brightly 4-1 away at Binacional and 3-1 at home against Sport Rosario, achieving 7 points after the first three rounds, the same as Universidad de San Martin, FBC Melgar and Deportivo Municipal, but overcoming them in the classification due to the better goal difference.
Real Garcilaso continues the good results which characterized the last rounds of Apertura. The Uruguayan manager Tabare Silva used the same starting XI in both winning matches versus Binacional and Sport Rosario: Ortiz - Arismendi, Kontogiannis, Dulanto, Cossio - Aucca, Archimbaud - Vidales, Ramua, Santillan - Rengifo.
It should be noted that this starting XI only includes two foreign players, Kontogiannis and Ramua, instead of three, as allowed by the Peruvian FA. Tabare Silva is very pleased with both the goalkeeper Ortiz and the newly-arrived striker Rengifo and decided to leave both Argentinian goalkeeper Morales and striker Alessandrini on the bench, although Alessandrini substituted Rengifo in the second half in both matches. Another change is the use of Aucca as the young player instead of right back Velasquez, which allowed Arismendi to play in that position.
