After the break caused by the matches played by the national teams, the Peruvian Clausura resumed last week-end with the 8th round. It was the first official test for Victor Reyes, the new head coach of Real Garcilaso, which played at home on Saturday, 20 October, against Union Comercio, one of the teams that fights to avoid relegation.
However, Victor Reyes did not change the "standard" starting line-up previously used by Tabare Silva: Ortiz - Arismendi, Kontogiannis, Dulanto, Cossio - Aucca, Archimbaud - Vidales, Ramua, Santillan - Rengifo. One can only remark the return of Ortiz as goalkeeper, instead of newly-arrived Caceda which was given a few chances but made some mistakes.
As expected, Real Garcilaso dominated the game and eventually succeeded in breaking the opposite defence in the 52nd minute, when Rengifo headed into the net a ball that came from a corner kick executed by Ramua. While Real Garcilaso was clearly the better team overall, they also suffered in the end, when the visitors tried to equalize, and a long-range shot by Mimbela hit the bar.
The apparently good start for the new head coach was however spoiled on Tuesday, 23 October, when Real Garcilaso lost 1-0 "away" to almost relegated Comerciantes Unidos. Actually Comerciantes Unidos use Cristo El Senor Stadium in Cajamarca as their home ground and they are unbeaten there since they moved! The only goal of the match was scored by Branco Serrano just before half time, in the 44th minute, after a wonderful collective effort and an excellent shot.
Real Garcilaso were unable to score although they had some chances, especially in the second half, when the team was more offensive.
On Sunday, 28 October, Real Garcilaso will play at home against FBC Melgar, leaders of Clausura, which is the top match of the 10th round and the "derby of South Peru".
