Cusco FC won 2-1 over Universidad de San Martín de Porres in the 11th round of the Peruvian Apertura

Monday, the 14th of September 2020, 11 am local time (4 pm UTC), Miguel Grau Stadium, Callao (neutral ground), Peru, the 11th round of the Peruvian Liga 1, Apertura (or Stage 1).
For Cusco FC, this match had a very high importance. First of all, the club sacked head coach Carlos Ramacciotti a few days ago, for unclear reasons, because the results were quite good, as they did not lose a single game with Ramacciotti as head coach. Francisco Melgar was appointed interim head coach, but he missed this game, when Ariel Paz had to stay on the bench. Then, the Disciplinary Board of the Peruvian Football Federation awarded 3-0 to Carlos Stein the match between them and Cusco FC, which Cusco FC won 2-1 in the field in the seventh round of the Apertura, right after the large break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, when very strict health-related rules were imposed. The reason behind this exaggerated decision is that two Cusco FC players, Ray Sandoval and Carlos Gómez, broke the rules. These two players did not even play in that match, although they were on the bench, and remained there as unused subs. Still, the match was awarded to Carlos Stein, and Cusco FC announced that they will appeal the decision.
The match against Universidad de San Martín de Porres started very well for Cusco FC, which scored very early: a cross from Ramúa on the right was headed perfectly by Danilo Carando: 0-1 (4'). The USMP side tried to come back in the game, and attacked vigorously. However, Cusco FC increased their advantage after a free kick from just outside the area, perfectly executed by Alfredo Ramúa: 0-2 (19').

In the second half, the pressure of the very young home side increased, and they eventually succeeded to score by means of Gaspar Gentile, who scored from inside the area, after a long attack: 1-2 (66'). Universidad de San Martín continued to dominate the game, but Cusco FC defended fairly well. Recently introduced Oscar Pinto (Universidad de San Martin) received two yellow cards within 10 minutes and was therefore sent off (77'), a fact which largely helped Cusco FC to keep their advantage until the end.
Universidad de San Martín: Penny - Bolívar, Schüler, Portales, Garro (Vega 81') - Barco (Pinto 50'), Oliva (Karamoko 81') - Guivin, Concha, Gentile - Figueroa (Rebagliati 70'). Head coach: Héctor Bidoglio.
Cusco FC: Pretel - Chávez, Saravia, Vílchez, Céspedes - Valenzuela, Atoche - Gutiérrez (Rivera 41'), Ramúa, Mimbela (Gonzales 61') - Carando (Pósito 78'). Coach: Ariel Paz.
Referee: Jonathan Zamora.
Yellow cards: Garro 61', Pinto 67', 77' - Gutiérrez 33', Saravia 42', Céspedes 78', Valenzuela 80', Pretel 90'.
Red card: Pinto 77' (for the second yellow card).
The next game of Cusco FC will be on Saturday, the 19th of September, against local archrivals Cienciano. However, the game will be played (like all the others) in Lima and without spectators.
