First win for 1. FK Svidník this season: 2-1 over FK POKROK SEZ Krompachy

Sunday, the 20th of September 2020, 3 pm local time (1 pm UTC), Mestský futbalový štadion, Svidník, Slovakia, the 9th round of the Slovak Third League - East (3. Liga - Východ).
It finally happened. The Svidník supporters had to wait for nine rounds to see their team winning one match. And it really was about the time for this to happen, in order to keep some hopes alive that this team might be resurrected somehow and saved from relegation, or worse, from bankruptcy. It is therefore exceptional that a small group of experienced players, together with some of the young players, succeeded to keep playing and even winning a game in these difficult times, when more and more people are leaving the club. In this game, one noticed the absence of assistant coach and player Róbert Potoma and of the left back Marek Kisel'a. Let's hope it is just a mere absence, because the team really needs them, at least as players. Gabriel Bocko took over as assistant coach even since last week game away at Prešov. Lukáš Zapotocký refused again to be the team's captain, an honour which was taken by Daniel Čabala.

The new captain, Daniel Čabala, took things very seriously and was one of the performers of the game, as he broke the deadlock with a beautifully executed free kick: 1-0 (40'). A goal which came right before half time, which gave the host team the necessary confidence that they can win this game. Immediately after the break, Štefan Košč passed inside the area and Michal Tokar made it 2-0 (50'): hopes were already high, as the Svidník team finally looked in control of the game.
However, emotions emerged in the end, as Krompachy scored by means of their head coach and player Jozef Baluch, from another free kick: 2-1 (78'). In the final minutes, the visitors pushed for an equalizer, but Svidník defended well and succeeded to preserve their fragile advantage.
Svidník: Mikluš (Dzupina 16') - Makara, R. Hudák, Zapotocký, Matkobiš  - Čabala (cpt.), Ducár - Tokar, Š. Košč, Gajdoš (Kamenický 62') - Kočan. Head coach: Jozef Žofaj.
